Whoa--Are Republicans Starting to "Distance" Themselves???
Got a minute??

I do have a talent--for decades I've been very good at sensing when the political ground is shifting. Big toe sensed a tremor. It happened today on Capitol Hill.

Already several months ago, political talking heads (aka: Republican media whores)said that by the end of this year things had to look good in Iraq and us starting big withdrawals or the Republicans were in big danger in '06 because the people were really turning against this war (& we have seen that in polls). Today a Congressional committee was, according to the evening news, grilling the hell out of the big brass in Iraq and demanding to know what the hell was going on, etc. (like what are the brass suppose to do about this fucking sewer that was handed to them----turn it into a Disney theme park??).

But something was missing. It wasn't Dems screaming and those "proud to be Amurekan" Repubs defending the brass. The Repubs were going after the brass. Bottom line: they know a few months isn't going to fix this mess--nor a few decades. But because of election season that starts like one short year from now, they are trying to dump it onto the brass instead of on themselves and their "el presidente". It's called dumping the blame and distancing themselves.

Even though our Dems are as guilty as them, they need to do what any good Repub would do--say nothing of our involvement and BLAME IT ALL ON BUSH AND THE REPUBLICANS. The signal is clear. The Repubs want to wash their hands of this stinking mess. It's opportunity time, Dems. Will we take it? Of course not. We never do. Hopefully, come election time the perception in the country will not be that those goddamn, worthless Dems declared war on Iraq while the Christian Repubs begged them not to!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are on the run and things like SS and consumption tax, etc. are going to make it worse. The ball is 100% in our court. If we have the political sense and balls to do something with it, we can build it all the way to the '06 elections. OR we can just sit by and let them extract themselves from the war their criminal leader lied the world into.

1. I feel it too, and I'm in a RED state.
We have to start pushing even harder that it's the REPUBLICANS causing the problem, not GWB.

I really think they will regret their decision to do away with the filibuster MUCH sooner than they intended. I would dearly LOVE to see that--and then see the Democratic MAJORITY return to allowing the filibuster.

They literally can't blame ANYTHING on the Democrats anymore--even though of course they will try.

2. good post
the house is up for full re-election and IMHO Dean and the Democratic Party will make the economy and Iraq and SS a major issue for Repugs in soft districts.

18. Are we sure...
we want any part of this economy?

I know we gotta try to stop the slide into 3rd world status, but if Dems take over any branch of govt in '06 or '08, the Repub noise machine will blame everything on the Dems...... "Yup, an unbroken record of Dem control from Clinton to now.. a record of war and economic downturn." The average Murikan will quietly say...."Baaaaaa.... Baaaaaa".

Damned if we lose... damned if we win.

21. I hope so too
And that's why Kucinich wrote to Dean asking him to distance the Dems from the clusterfuck.

6. City-Zen---------confession
I've read and re-read your reply. You know what? I didn't know if you were referring to the Republicans or the Democrats!!! Yes, I guess you are talking about the repubs because they always have that Christian Right unholy hoard to worry about. But, I had to say to myself: Did Zen mean that our dear polticians wouldn't want to distance themselves too far from the corporate shit they are also up to their pits in?????????? Wish I could 'believe' again...I really do....

8. The current Brass deserve what they're getting
Well for the sake of argument, most of the brass were on top of the
"Rah, Rah, Rah" wagon. All the nay sayers were politlely asked to retire before the invasion took place. So, the brass that the Repukes are slamming, deserve the slamming, mainly because when asked when this shit storm started, they were all behind it 100%.

They knew it was a sewer, but which one of them asked for more body armor, which one requested armored HUMVEES, not a one, it was some
enlisted guy who asked those questions of Rummy. The brass let the troops go into harms way without proper equipment and in some cases
without proper training.

As far as I'm concerned, and as a former soldier, the brass should be placed so far into a military prison that the only way for them to get fed is if you shoot their food to them with 155 Howitzer.

12. atre--yeah, I can't feel any sympathy for the "enabler" brass but
...I have to laugh how they now are going to be the "incompetent bad boys" so that repub law makers can wash their hands of it just like the intelligence community had to shut their mouths and be portrayed as incompetent, stupid, dumb fuck public employees who were the cause of 9/11 and the Iraq WMD reports, etc. and not the lying, filthy piece of human garbage who is the lazy, rich fucker who sleeps in the Oval Office. These slime alwyas pick the boys and girls who cannot object or protest or speak out as their scapegoats. If I were the brass, I'd try to retire real quick before they break me down to private and shit away my retirement!!!!!!!!!!!!

13. Update-----what is going on on Hardball tonight.
Just read another post and a respondent said that Hardball is tearing into the military right now. Funny. If this was the big push on Capitol Hill today is this a case of Matthews getting his marching orders to pin this on military incompetence. OR-because I'm not watching is this because the prision scandle or something rests only with the underlings and not the brass??----even so, I would have to ask whether this "subject" matter is part of a Rove order to taint the military (is there anyone who has been in it that doesn't hate the brass??). Point blank: the theme seems to be too coincidental. What do you think???

15. Another demonstration of the RW's 'support' for the 'troops' ......
As someone said, upthread, the current crop of military brass appear to have bought into the whole adminstration riff on Iraq. That said, to see the repugs piling on the troops is, to me, simply delicious. This'll win hearts and minds back there in East "God and Country" Bumfuck.

Let's hope this continues. I love watching a good shitstorm when it strikes the other side.

17. The question is...will Dems who were and still are against the war
Edited on Thu May-05-05 08:44 PM by higher class
distance themselves from Dem Senators and Congresspeople who supported the war. I hope so.

I think it is a given that Repub citizens who weren't involved in calling for a war will turn.

If Repubs do turn against their own...it could be a turning point for the survival of humanity. They also have to be against imperialism, imo.

Until people stop calling it war and start calling it killing, it's going to be sow going. War has been made honorable in the U.S. Yes, it's honorable to defend your country if your country is telling the truth.

20. Easy to distance yourself from the mess you made
They've done so much damage...how much more
is there to do? Hope Democrats keep reminding
people that it was the Republican majority
and the three branches of Republican governing
that made the mess.
