Here is a note someone left on my windshield outside The Charlie Horse in West Bridgwater, Mass. on April 22nd. I was showing it around the next day at the Democratic Underground meeting in Boston.

"Do not put YOUR stupid republican note on MY windshield. Get away from my car. You won't intimidate me and it sure won't change my mind. Don't waste your time."

. . .or something to that effect.

or maybe "While you are busy scribbling what you think I may be busy taking your picture and getting your license plate. Get away from my car, you are committing a crime."

Course, then you won't get those fun notes.

Save that first one, that writing is very distinctive...and I'll bet you'll get more of them, if you got that first one at a place where you regularly park. Also, if they ever get threatening, put them in a paper bag, and handle them by the edges as a matter of course, even before you read the contents of the note. Idiots who get emotional usually forget about fingerprints.

I should be leaving nice notes on cars with progressive stickers. I live in Alabama, and I'm sure progressives with stickers on their cars get plenty of ugly notes. A nice note occasionally could maybe lift someone's spirits and let them know they're not alone.

I have, in my work badge sleeve, a note that says:

Someone placed it on my car in the grocery parking lot. I still glance at it now and then. It's a reminder that I'm not alone.

I got a few ugly looks, but the only fingers came from people with New York plates.

After driving two days down route 95 from Boston, it wasn't until I got to Georgia that someone gave me the finger-- and they had New York plates.

On the way back home, while I was on The New Jersey Parkway, one guy from New Jersey gave me a more tasteful "thumbs-down."
