Radar alert sends Bush into White House bunker

By Thomas Frank and Alan Levin, USA TODAY Thu Apr 28, 6:36 AM ET

The alert was triggered at 10:35 a.m. when government radar screens showed a dot - mistaken for an airplane - about 30 miles south of Washington and moving slowly toward the city, said Federal Aviation spokeswoman Laura

Jet Violates White House Airspace

BBC News, April 3, 2002

A passenger jet has violated airspace restrictions above the White House, flying as low as 300 metres (1,000 feet) over the home of the US president.

The two pilots of Frontier Airlines flight 819 have been suspended after reportedly acknowledging errors that took the plane through the most restricted airspace in the United States.

The plane failed to make a steep turn after take-off and flew almost directly over the White House, where President George W Bush was at the time.

There have always been security precautions for government buildings in Washington, but these were tightened after the 11 September attack on the Pentagon - and fighter jets continue to patrol the skies.

2. strange
Doesnt it seem very strange that they launch F-16's right away
to intercept this plane that accidentally entered the no fly zone

But on Sept 11th, the Air Force was no where to be found

8. Yes, VERY strange - the most suspicious thing that happened that day
(or, more precisely I guess, DIDN'T happen that day)

5. Flip Flop
"There have always been security precautions for government buildings in Washington,"

Didn't they get the memo. The official story seems to be changing. I thought nobody EVER expected an attack on the "holy land" from a domestic source.

7. And certainly not while reading a story about pet goats.
Not much whisking occurred, if I remember correctly.

10. Don't forget my state's beloved Governor, Ernie Fletcher
His plane had a malfunctioning transponder or something that set off alerts late last year.
