3. It's safer for them to investigate and be outraged by that than by torture
Think about it.
They (Bush Inc) are feigning outrage over the desecrated Quran but have yet to do anything about the torture of the exact same people who read and worship the Quran...
Bush Inc supports the torture...so you know they support the desecration of religious books and symbols...
but it's easier for them to claim they'll investigate and do something about the Quran being flushed.
4. They still haven't caught on: It doesn't matter *what* we believe. . .
it's what the people in the countries we've invaded believe that will drive all the action. We can pontificate all we want -- "Nope. Never happened. False reports of a malicious sort." -- and it won't stop the riots because the people rioting have their own reality with which to contend.
It's the same when BushCo pronounces that we went in to Iraq to free the Iraqis and help them find democracy. Doesn't matter if everyone in America believed that bilge, the Iraqis would still see an occupying army bent on stealing their oil and oppressing their people.
The little fantasies George weaves for domestic consumption are failing to persuade even a simple majority of the people. Do they truly believe their continued lies will influence what the oppressed believe?
