2. Well, according to media reports, it looks like they're all running out
and cancelling the subscriptions.

It's bullshit. They would read newsweek or any other american publication as much as most americans would read Al-Jazeera.

3. i have been thinking the same thing
and considering that information pertaining to Koran desecration was out years ago, the whole thing is fishy.

4. That's what I said!!! Most of America knew nothing about it but
the Afghans were right on top of it?!?!?!

Maybe Newsweek was offering a big discount to people in countries being occuppied?

What a crock, is right.

Apparently.

This fiasco has a stench. Newsweek seems to have been set up, just like Rather, by a carefully-baited 'source' that's designed to be impeachable. This reeks of CoIntelPro disinformation:
(1) Construct an irresistible 'source' or piece of 'evidence' regarding a leaking scandal.
(2) Dangle this bait in front of the media or specific "liberal" journalist.
(3) After they bite, impeach the source/evidence. Characterize the entire scandal as 'impeached' and torpedo yet another 'enemy of the Reich.'

It's the epitome of what "Rovian" is all about, imho.

6. What we do know about prisoner abuse is
rape, murder, degradation, posing, hitting, punching, stripping, and many other tourtures. No violent protests there with people shot dead. One minor article almost hidden in magazine that almost no one reads in Afghanistan...thousands take to the streets. Bullshit!

8. Don't forget that the bombing of a Koran printing house was almost ignored
So, we're to believe that Afghans read an obscure 'Periscope' article in Newsweek ... an article intended solely for an American readership ... and have ignored reports in the foreign press (including Asian and Arab media) about detainees making the exact same claims for the past two years as well as the bombing destruction of a whole Koran printing house. F*cking nonsense.

7. It's another example of how the BFEE terrorizes the media
so that they will only print what the Bushies want. First, Dan Rather, now Newsweek. As if the MSM aren't totally submissive already.

10. It came from the PX...
the Arabic version mistakenly got sent to the PX, and our generous soldiers all bought copies to distribute to the Afghans.

11. ABC WNT said it was spread via e-mails and chat rooms
in the Arab world. I was wondering the same thing myself. Seems like a plausible story but it also sounds like something that PsyOps would do.

13. QUESTIONS: The BBC reported the same story a week earlier--how
Edited on Tue May-17-05 06:16 PM by AirAmFan
can prior reports of the same events by others be ignored in a White-House-alleged chain of causation from riots back to Newsweek? See http://www.indybay.org/news/2005/05/1737861.php . CORRECT TIME ORDER is not optional when alleging causation!

Also, how many copies of the Quran have been distributed at Gitmo? Does every new Muslim prisoner get one, the way the Gideon Society distributes Bibles to every hotel room? If there were hundreds of copies of the Quran distributed at Gitmo, can the US mlitary account for all of them today? Is it reasonable to maintain that not one of possibly hundreds of copies of a document conceivably could have been mishandled? Have all interrogators at Gitmo even been asked about their handling of the Quaran?

Real NEWS on this story is getting very hard to find amidst a hurricane of PROPAGANDA.Very vew self-described "journalists" are asking the basic investigational questions that come to any reasonable person's mind .

14. Watching CBS Evening News tonight...
...you would get the impression that Newsweek is solely responsible for ALL the Anti-American sentiment in the Middle East. Not a single Media source questioned whether the report was TRUE. AND...Newsweek's fawning and rolling over only in contrite supplication makes this WORSE!!!!!

A repeat of the Abu-Gahrib torture:
It wasn't the TORTURE that was the PROBLEM, it was the PICTURES of Torture.

It's not the way that the detaineees are treated by the US, the problem is that someone TALKED about the way detainees are treated.

15. Of course it's another distraction! That, and the fact that Bush cannot
EVER apologize for anything and THAT was the demand. He chooses the GOP coward route as usual and blames someone else for his policy decisions.
