Funny how the official government site of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs doesn't have a link to video of Galloway's testimony. They have a link to everyone else's testimony.

Cowards.

Maybe they should point to the Crooks and Liars feeds of the testimony.

This is no longer a Democracy the tell us. It is a Republic. Well, fine. This Republic is in violation of basic mores of decency in squashing disent and allowing the only Truth to reside in the majority party's mouth. Revisionists USUALLY wait until the book comes out, but you guys are really jumping the gun.

There is no just and fair representation in America when you play games like this with testimony because it is inconvient to your pre-determined judgement.

20. I have e-mailed Senator Coleman

(at the suggestion of someone else) via the web form on his page on the Senate web site. One has to give a US address, so I made one up (I am in Britain). I wrote,

"Dear Senator, Like most people, I appreciate that things did not "pan out" quite as you expected last Tuesday but, for good or ill, a global tv audience of millions witnessed Member of the British Parliament George Galloway's statement. It is being played and replayed, and discussed - and transcripts of what he said are available - on web sites around the world.

But on the official web site of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Galloway's name isn't even on the witness list, and his testimony transcript is the only one not available as a downloadable .pdf. You, yourself, promised that his statement would be published as part of the official record of the hearing held last Tuesday 17 May 2005. This has not happened - what is holding things up?"

May not even be read by his staff but - hey, above and beyond the call of duty, I tried to save Coleman from himself. :-)

Within three days of the Respect MP for Bethnal Green and Bow making a statement to the US Senators, on the official web site of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Galloway's name isn't even on the witness list, and his testimony transcript is the only one not available as a downloadable .pdf. (A transcript, not the official one but reproduced from the Times web site, can be viewed on the Common Dreams web site, "Galloway vs. The US Senate".)

Galloway spanked Senator Norman Coleman, at a hearing that was broadcast live around the world, and the most powerful government on the planet's response to their public humiliation is to rewrite history immediately. I don't know why they didn't see Galloway coming but they disastrously (for the US reputation) underestimated him. Galloway is not universally admired in the UK but even his detractors are "handing it to him" for his courage and conviction. He stood up on his own (most witnesses are "lawyered-up", to use a DU phrase) and skewered the Senate, again and again. He probably surprised himself - it was a cakewalk.

I can't put it better than one of the commentators on the Democratic Underground forum: "Paging Winston Smith - please come to the propaganda center."

Americans, you are going to need us - the rest of the world - to help you depose (if it is to be done without bloodshed) the clique of greedy, rich, amoral, racist, white families who now have the running of your country by the short hairs. Your newspapers, your tv, your radio - so many broken reeds.
