IF we regain the Majority
it won't be any more right for us to abuse the minority than it is right now for the Republicans to abuse the minority.

So if THAT is why some of us want to get rid of the filibuster, then I say NO.

The rights of the minority must be protected. EVEN when the minority party is the Republicans, not us.

We should take heed to some of the actual sentiments expressed by the Democrats speaking in the Senate.

2. Maybe so but I certainly hope we get some licks in with all the
crap this administration has thrown. Like get the environmental legislation put back in place for one that Bush is destroying.

3. So...what you are saying is that
If the Republicans ram this through...get a bunch of right wing judges on the bench...get some fundie whacko on the Supreme Court

then...when we get the majority back we are supposed to protect their rights...rights which they threw away to begin with ?

I don't think so...the Republicans will never gain respect for minority protections unless they feel what it's like not to have them.

I am not advocating the change, and we should be fighting it. But if it goes through, all bets are off.

5. No that is not what I'm saying
I'm saying that those who are saying "Eh, let the fillibuster go. It'll be better for us later" are wrong.

Fight to keep the fillibuster, for both sides. But, if we fail, and by their own hands the fillibuster is gone, then I say "Katie, bar the door" if we ever get the majority back. If it's gone for us, then it damn well should be gone for them too.

But, that doesn't mean I think we should be joining the Republicans in the shout to abolish it because we think it will be better for us later.

It will be good for no one.

7. I was actually thinking a similar thing.
Not only war crimes, but investigations into all the shit that's been going on for the last 5 years!

8. Keep the filibuster, expose and impeach the war criminals and the
war profiteers. Moderately sane republicanism will never have a chance as long as their Party is co-opted by a bunch of oily, theo-fascist thugs.

10. I'm with you, LittleClarkie. We must
never sink to their level. Isn't a true democracy what we're all supposed to be fighting for? Checks and BALANCES are mandatory!

Politicians with real integrity who put the safeguarding of American values and institutions before political expediency are so rare these days.

12. Yeah, Play Nice the way we have the last two elections.
Don't sink to their level. You don't have to but you had better remember who you are playing ball against and they don't play nice.

This is why we are not winning.

13. Take out the garbage, THEN play nice
I know you are referring specifically to the filibuster and I agree.

But when we get the majority, we need to go after these criminals, and not just the ones in the administration.

We need to clean up the election system, so that people will have faith in the integrity of their vote.

Bust up the corporate media mill, and reinstate the fairness doctrine.

No more offshore shell corporations to avoid paying taxes.

And when we do go after the criminals in this administration I don't want to hear any of that 'good of the country' crap and let these goons off easy. What will be for the 'good of the country' is to see these perpeTRAITORS in orange jumpsuits and leg irons being frog marched to REAL prison, not white mans prison. Super Max, baby! Like the prison that Kazcinski or McVeigh were housed in....

*rant mode off*
