Bay Buchanan just said on CNN Crossfire that McCain is
Edited on Wed May-25-05 03:53 PM by Ilsa
finished for 2008. She said that after his position in the filibuster, there is no way conservatives will support him, and "conservatives control the primaries."

6. Earlier, i heard part of a story about Mitt Romney having to decide
whether to run for pres or gov again. If he runs for gov, he has to sound moderate, vs conservative if he is running for pres. And it isn't likely that he can run for both at once because of timing issues and this conflict of presentation. This was on Inside Politics, I think.

2. That's Probably True
and it's probably for the best. McCain had the best shot. But I really think he wasn't going to run anyway.

4. If Bay said it, it must be true. Let's hope it is true.
Of course moderates are common in the Republican Party. :sarcasm:

5. A lot is going to happen between now and 2008
In the end, many of these so called conservatives will vote with their pocket books and not with their crosses. It is only the ideologues that will, like lemmings, continue heading for the cliff, I bet.

The erosion has already begun. Look at the numbers and remember that Republicans control a lot of the polls. It is probably worse than we even know.

11. Yes, it is far too soon to tell. Who knows what the issues will be
in 2008. That doesn't keep anyone from speculating, though, especially when they get paid to do so.

7. He was damaged goods long before this.
He's still covered in Bush and Rove's piss from 2000.

And conservatives never liked him.

12. Yeah, the freepers were smacking him the other night, repeating
the old propaganda (from Rove) about McCain getting to "rest" in the "spa" Hanoi Hilton during Vietnam. KKKarl has ruined any chance McCain would ever have at another run. He didn't play dirty enough against W.

8. I was wondering about that
His central role in the compromise burnished his centrist credentials, but those were already strong (to many voters). But the RW won't forget. That's probably why Chuck Hagel shied away from the compromise - to preserve his viability in 2008.

9. Yeah thats right
My friend, who is a republican conservative, has been saying that since the deal. My own view has been that McCain had no chance anyway. If the right wing kooks did not support him in 2000 what makes him think they will vote for him this time? Of republicans he is the only one I had any use for, but as long as he stays in that party he is going nowhere fast.

14. Bay's just being coy. She meant to say conservatives own the machines.
As in ES&S and Diebold.

Over 60% of votes nationwide are counted by this equipment.

Don't be shy Bay. We know what you're thinking.

17. I hope she's right.
In theory, I'd rather have a centrist like McCain in the WH if it absolutely has to be a Republican. But in my book, a Republican's a Republican, and I'd rather they put some religious nut that alienates mainstream America instead of someone with more popularity with the masses.

18. That show is STILL ON?
Some unsolicited advice: there are far better ways to spend your time than watching Bay Buchanan or listening to what she has to say. For example, her 'insight' that conservatives won't support McCain has been posted on DU (and Free Republic, I might add), about a billion times in the last four years...

I suppose I could have turned it off, but I hadn't listened for awhile when doing some housework. Yeah, I know, the conservatives killed off McCain's political career long ago.
