in Iraq, due to deaths and injuries. The war is costing $5 billion a month.

On MSNBC now.

Things sure don't look good -- lots of doom and gloom.

11. Depends on the unit. From 300 to 1000.
An American battalion has between 300 to 1000 Soldiers or Marines, and consists of several companies. It is commanded by a lieutenant colonel, with majors serving as the executive officer and the Operations Officer (S-3).

Three to four battalions form a brigade.

In the 1960s to the present day, a typical infantry battalion has five companies: Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC), which includes the battalion staff; A, B, and C Companies, and a Combat Support Company, which includes scouts, anti-tank, and mortar sections or platoons.

American Army mechanized infantry battalions and tank battalions, for tactical purposes, will cross-post companies to each other, forming a battalion-sized task force (TF).

5. McCaffery? I don't think so.
Edited on Thu Jun-23-05 07:33 PM by Pepperbelly
He can be quite good at times. He sucked as BC's drug czar (a totally useless position, IMO) but he was quite good contemporaneously with the run up to war.

edit because my spelling sux.

McCaffrey is a war criminal and a political whore.
But that's just my opinion.

I'll agree with him when I start agreeing with Kristol, May, Woolsey, Pletka, Jackson, Kagan, Boot, and all the rest on Gilligan's Island.

9. nobody's metrics for victory match up!
the Pentagon has its idea, the State Dept has its own idea...this is madness! Those in the House & in the Senate ought to consistently & publicly demand to be publicly told just what "victory" entails. What Iraq actually wants might actually come into play, but we never get to hear from the Iraqi public, our media in the US does not ask. I wonder if the Iraqi public could change the American public's mind?

10. very few of you have been in the military
approximately 1000. 4 companies + a headquarters company (if memory serves me right); each company runs apprxomately 225 - 250 men; HQ can run about 80 - 120+. So approximately 1000 sounds about right..but its been over thirty years.
