For Karl, from Alaska with Love
let him know how you feel: president@whitehouse.gov

Mr. Bush:

I was not aware until today when Karl Rove told me that I was a traitor to the country I was born in, loved all my life, paid taxes for, buried relatives in and generally honored by hard work, good children and doing the right thing. It was quite a surprise even coming from your side of the fence.

Karl Rove now tells me that because I am a liberal and a democrat that I am a traitor. I was not aware that there were laws that said I had to believe the way you and Mr. Rove believe. I was not aware that Mr. Rove was an authority in anything, let alone what it took to be a good American.

If you consider his life, you will see general lapses in his conduct that might have someone believe he himself is a traitor. He had a great opportunity to serve his country in war but he CHOSE not to do so. He could have gotten a real job doing honest work but he CHOSE not to do so.

Mr. Rove could advocate for ending poverty, preventing war, protecting the earth and her creatures and telling the truth every day but he CHOSE not to do so. How all of his lapses somehow don't count against him, I don't know. I suppose you yourself CHOSE not to see them. You certainly CHOSE to make judgements about others, even though your manifest faults are many.

I guess its too much to expect to have dignity, decency and honor in the government. I guess you CHOSE not to exercise those attributes in your endless quest for the subjugation of America and all those that don't believe the way you do. What a shame it is that someone from a family that has been here since 1640, had people who served in every single war in American history including the little known ones, paid taxes and worked, and never had a single member on both sides in all that time go to prison should feel so completely betrayed by the executive branch of the country I love so much.

But then, you CHOSE to make me feel this way. You CHOSE the way you behave and CHOSE to pursue it, harming this country with every action and word, with no concern for the consequences. However, not all is lost forever. Given the way your poll numbers are going, the 2006 Congressional elections should be a bell weather on you and your regime. Don't be surprised if your confederates in crime get turned out and a legion of 'traitors' from my side of the fence get their jobs.

Just know it is part of the American process going forward as it has from the beginning and know that we CHOSE to make it so.

1. I wrote to the president too, just last week
but my letter was nowhere near as eloquent and well thought out as yours.

3. God, yes, I miss it
I live more than 4,000 miles away now, and when I go back home to visit, I barely recognize the country where I was born and grew up (doesn't help that I'm from a red state, either).

America is being held hostage.

Fabulous doggies, BTW - I used to have a daschund too, and despite being built so low to the ground, she was the best watchdog I ever had! But boy, could she eat!
