Bush is NOT 'Commander in Chief' of the American People!!!
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 05:49 PM by Zen Democrat
I, for one, am challenging the misuse of the term "Commander in Chief" by this administration.

According to the Constitution, the president is commander-in-chief of the military. He's not commander-in-chief of the American people. He's the elected leader of the executive branch of government. Period. Or at least he's supposed to be "elected."

I hear the White House and Simple Scottie saying stuff like "the people of this country want to hear from their commander-in-chief." For once and for all, let's start correcting this inaccuracy because it seems to be heading toward (or "marching" toward) the "dictator" thing that Dumb-Shit-Son so longs to be.

He's not the commander-in-chief of ANYBODY except a uniformed member of the armed services. God help 'em.

1. Richard Nixon was
my commander-in-chief from 1969-73 and I certainly wasn't about to follow any of his orders then.

He sure as hell is not comander of ANYTHING as far as I am concerned! Who the hell does he think he is, anyway? Everytime I hear a news story that starts out "p(R)esident Bush* today said he would/would not blah blah blah...", I think, well who died and appointed him God? (Oh yeah, the Fristianistas). Now, the newsies probably always started stories out like this about other Presidents, but when it hear it in connection to *, it sets my teeth on edge and makes me want to throw things across the room. I know he thinks he can have anything he wants, and unfortunately, up until recently, that's pretty much the way it's been. Hopefully, though, the things that have been happening lately (DSM, disillusionment with Iraq, resistance to Bolton, etc.)will start to take him down a peg or two until he falls back into the slime from whence he came!

:puke: :grr:

On edit: accidentally used the royal "we".

11. what a trip he must be on!
Chimpy was never too happy with reality, having a war hero dad to measure up to and having a cold strict mom. But he did have his family fame and fortune. So he drank and got high. Then he got religion. Now he's got his new reality bubble to live in--the "war president" trip, where what he says, goes. The lies he tells are his reality. The truth doesn't matter in his world, it's the lies that matter.

Unfortunately the effects are all too real for the rest of us. Let's hope he crashes very soon.

12. Chimpy uses lies to 'redecorate' his reality like other people ...
... redecorate their living rooms. For him, and his entire cabal, it's all a matter of manipulation and facade. It's a gross, amoral perversion of "believing will make it so."

14. You can say that again. It really annoys me to hear anyone refer
to him as "the President." It's far too respectful a
term and, besides, he's there illegally. Twice.

They work for themselves and their brothers in crime -- and the people and the Constitution are just so much trash to them.

20. I agree with everyone here -- he's not MY president
because he stole two elections and now heads up a Junta government that has turned us into the Most Hated Nation.

But this Commander In Chief business is a little twist I've noticed that is creepy and sinister (just as everything they do is sinister). The president, or resident, or whoever sits in the WH, is NOT and is NEVER the Commander in Chief of the American people. That this terminology is infiltrating the political speech these days is a little frightening to me. Especially when Scottie keeps saying it like a subliminal message (your Commander in Chief, the people's Commander in Chief ... ).

Whoever sits in that office -- from George Washington and on into the future is not entitled to use the term "Commander in Chief" in reference to American citizens. We the people don't have any damn Commander in the government, or anywhere else for that matter.

I'm also sick of him being refereed to as the most powerful man in the country or in the world.

The president is NOT a leader of the people, he is a representative of the people, and not just those who voted for him but of every U.S citizen. He may hold the highest elected office in this country, but he's still a Civil Servant.

To many in this country have forgotten that fact, which is why this administration has been able to get away with what it has.
