Robert Novak, Goodbye to You
I'm glad "Crossfire" was cancelled a few months ago. I'm glad "Capital Gang" did its last episode this weekend.

Less of Robert Novak on tv.

Here is an excerpt from an article I did about Novak in May:

http://www.moveleft.com/moveleft_essay_2005_05_15_conservatives_dennis_prager_and_robert_novak_trivialize_the_holocaust.asp

Robert Novak, Columnist and TV Pundit

Conservatve Robert Novak also recently used a Nazi reference which trivializes the Holocaust.

Robert Novak compared Senate Democrats to Nazis.

This occurred during a discussion of the filibuster.

On the CNN "Capital Gang" aired on May 14, 2005, Robert Novak
said that compromising on the filibuster and letting Senate Democrats allow some of the filibustered judges to get confirmed (but not others) was like letting Nazis decide whom to send to a "death chamber."

AL HUNT: Bob, why would Senator Frist refuse an offer to break the deadlock?

ROBERT NOVAK: Because the whole system (inaudible) you're not going to have -- like going to a concentration camp and picking out which people go to the death chamber. You're not going to let the Democrats do that, say, We're going to -- we're going to confirm this person, we're not going to confirm the other person.

Video of Robert Novak trivializing the Holocaust is at:
Crooks and Liars.

There is a big difference between a contemporary California state judge remaining there and not getting promoted to the federal bench, and a prisoner at a World War II-era Nazi camp in Poland being sent to his or her death.

16. I'm with you
It was the only show on cable where the liberal/moderates typically outnumbered the conservatives. It was also one of the last shows to focus on real news instead of the latest shark attack or Micheal Jackson. The fact that they didn't spend the whole show shouting each other down was also a plus.

For all the people who are cheering this show's cancellation - just wait to see what they replace it with.

23. Exactly.
I'm scared to even think about what will replace it.

Oy. A new version of 'People in the News'?

'Michael Jackson Hour'

6. Crossfire was cancelled? last I heard Jon Stewart was
eviscerating them on their own show....maybe he was the big leaden foot that stomped the life out of them. LOL. Or they were tired of getting TROUNCED in the cable ratings by Spongebob Squarepants and Fairly Odd Parents.

7. I Agree
<excerpt>The word "Nazi" is serious.
It shouldn't be tossed around lightly. <end snip>

The amazing thing is I hear it all the time from both sides. I wish people would think about the history of Nazi's and what extensive pain and death they caused in the Jewish community before they throw the term around like it was just a simple shock phrase or term/word. Its not.

18. Do Mark Shields and Al Hunt also get a show?
I doubt it. This is why losing the Capital Gang is a negative. We still have Novak on the air - he's just not being held in check by three moderates anymore. The cancellation of the show is just another example of the elimination of progressives from television news.

22. Margaret Carlson was asked
why the Plame affair wasn't discussed on The Capitol Gang. She said because it's Bob's show and he chooses the subject matter.
