zidzi pointed out that if bushco couldn't 'anticipate' a disaster THEN
those who stayed in NO couldn't either so QUIT BLAMING THOSE WHO DIDN'T LEAVE NO

And that means the ones
who didn't choose to leave couldn't have anticipated this, either..so the fema director can stop with his talking points about how "the victims bear some responsibility".

1. The victims bear some responsiblity is such a
Bankrupt way of looking at things, until it is scary.

Of course, we must remember that these are the same folks that will tell you to pull yourself up by your bootstraps as they are stepping on your face!

2. ...and what about his/their capacity to anticipate another?
Potentially very disquieting, given this past four years, no?

(yikes, think I've just written a "talking point"!)

3. It isn't playing dumb...they ARE dumb

"I don't think anyone anticipated the breach of the levees."
--Bush, to the knee-padded Dianne Sawyer on ABC’s Good Morning America, this morning.

Steve, I don't think anybody could have predicted that these people would take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center, take another one and slam it into the Pentagon; that they would try to use an airplane as a missile, a hijacked airplane as a missile.
--Condi Rice press briefing, May 16, 2002

4. Our administration
is constantly blindsided by events they could well have anticipated.

Terrorists had contemplated flying large airplanes into important targets years before Sept 11.

Scientific American in October 2001, and U.S. News and World report in July of this year are just two magazines that had major articles about a hurricane drowning the city.

An essential part of the problem about not getting aid to NO in a timely manner is the vaunted Republican ideal of self-sufficiency. I think they honestly believe that each individual, regardless of personal circumstances, ought to be able to manage no matter what, including this sort of catastrophe. This from the same people that brought you Haliburton and Enron.
