The Nuremberg Defense
Definition: The Nuremberg Defense is a legal defense that essentially states that the defendant was "only following orders" and is therefore not responsible for his crimes.

Definition courtesy of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Defense

But, as POTUS, one cannot claim "following orders". Instead one tries to escape accountability via the "following procedures" defense.:grr:

2. Only that the Nuremberg Defense was rejected and that
"following orders" was not considered an excuse.

Furthermore, at both the Nuremberg and Tokyo trials, higher-ups were held responsible for the atrocities of their subordinates because they either condoned them or created an atmosphere in which atrocities would be likely.

3. EXACTLY my point
While people died, this administration is claiming "following procedure" as their defense.

Pretty lame excuse and one I wish the MSM would openly question.

6. MSM has been delving into some of this: info on the airport
debacle, for instance. Emergency personnel were not allowed into NO because the authorities, following procedure, needed to screen them (in case they were terrorists posing as emergency personnel!) and the screening machine was broken. Finally, someone got the bright idea of calling higher-ups (in D.C., I think) and getting permission to screen them by hand.

...and MSM also touched on how relief workers and others with food and water were not allowed into the city of NO by authorities.

I hope MSM does some good documentaries on what happened. Message to Bush admin: it is so time.

4. Now it's the "Chewbacca Defense"
Where something is just "all so complicated, it would be impossible to figure it all out--so therefore let's just let it go."

Popularized by the Johnny Cochran character on a South Park episode. I've seen the repugs use this one a lot of late. Don't be surprised when it's invoked after the tactic of blaming the state and local governments no longer works.

5. Courtesy of Wikipedia
" Ladies and gentlemen of the supposed jury, Chef's attorney would certainly want you to believe that his client wrote "Stinky Britches" ten years ago. And they make a good case. Hell, I almost felt pity myself!

But ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider: Ladies and gentlemen this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now, think about that. THAT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE! Why would a Wookiee—an eight foot tall Wookiee—want to live on Endor with a bunch of two foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense!

But more important, you have to ask yourself, what does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense!

Look at me, I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca. Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense. None of this makes sense!

And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberating and conjugating the Emancipation Proclamation... does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense.

If Chewbacca lived on Endor, you must acquit! The defense rests."

7. Wow, that's pretty good (and thanks for the explanation above)

Haven't seen too much South Park.

Yes, once their Nuremberg Defense falls flat, they will invoke the Chewbacca Defense.

8. I think that the "following procedures" defense is absurd
Everyone knows damn well that the President can over rule "procedures" if necessary to the defense of our country.
