Cancer vs. hurricane: Question about bankruptcy bill
Wouldn't all of the poor people still qualify to erase all debt under the new bankruptcy bill because they already make less than the average income for their state?

Here is my point: It is mostly the W supporters who probably paid ZERO attention to the new bankruptcy bill legislation (including the rejection of amendments by Dems for health exemptions, etc) who would be most affected by the new bill. If the Dems come to the rescue, these people won't know that the Dems saved their butts but if they suffer the consequences of the Republican legislation first hand, maybe they will realize WHAT they've been voting for...and I don't mean gay marriage.

Not to be cruel...just a question.

1. I am poor
Edited on Thu Sep-08-05 01:14 PM by miss_kitty
I suffered a total collapse of my credit when I was diagnosed with cancer as an unemployed uninsured person. I now am on SS disability and own nothing worth much. My car is a 92 Civic.

My bnky atty called me up last week and told me I'd better do it now if I was going to do it at all.

This law is aimed to make life more miserable FOR the poor, not the well off. It's the out-of-control banks against those of us who fight for the crumbs that fall from their tables...

On Edit: Spelling

2. I am so sorry for you
And I certainly meant no disrespect to you. In fact, it is exactly my point that an illness put you into bankruptcy (the #1 cause) but, although there is more paperwork, you would qualify for complete debt forgiveness under the old and new law.

It is the I'm-better-than-them, W-voting crowd with newly acquired wealth (and debt) who will be hurt BIG TIME under the new law because, unlike your illness, they chose to buy their dream home in paradise in a hurricane zone...but at least gays can't marry and pro-fetus leaders are in place.

3. I saw nothing disrespectful in your question
Here's the deal-although I spent the better part of 10 years working in the credit industry, granting credit, credit line increases and investigating credit card fraud, and the better part of 25 years maintaining an excellent credit standing, and even though my bnky occurred because I was ill-I'd have to attend credit class-probably a class I could teach-as a condition for filing under the new law, just like any stupid ass deadbeat who filled out every pre-approved credit app ever sent to them, leased the vehicle, and ate dinner out 5-7 times a week, and charged up to the max, because they KNEW they were filing. All encouraged by the fucking corporate weasels who lobbied for and benefit from this new law.

I had 1000s in available credit. It's quite obvious I stopped charging when I realised I couldn't pay. Now I wish I'd had all my dental work done and put it on my cards.
