Gibbons' Reno office evacuated after white powder found

Sept. 20, 2005

RENO, Nev. (AP) - A white powder found in a mailed envelope forced the evacuation of U.S. Rep. Jim Gibbons' campaign office in Reno.

Ten people were held in a "hot zone" late Monday until it was determined that the substance was harmless.

A staff person for Gibbons' gubernatorial bid opened the envelope with "childlike" handwriting about 4:30 p.m. Those evacuated were allowed to return about 6 p.m.
