Cheney Resignation
I think there is a rumor that Cheney may step down and allow Condi Rice to become VP. Beyond the fact that I think Cheney has too much of an ego to step down I also wonder doesn't the Constitution prevent that from happening. The Constitution lists the order of command and SOS is about third or fourth after the president. So if the VP resigns can the president pick the person that replaces the VP? I never thought that could happen.

Nixon before Nixon was indicted.

16. According to Imus his aides dressed him up and sat him up in a chair
but they put his shoes on the wrong feet. Don't know whether it is true but it is a funny story anyway.

4. Interesting, isn't it?
I have no idea whether the rumors are true or not, and something tells me that the only way they'll get Cheney out of the veep's office before January 20, 2009 is lengthwise with a tag around his toe.

But there is no denying that there are rumors out there. Hee, hee, hee.

5. Line of succession only applies to the POTUS
In the event of his death or resignation the VPOTUS or whoever is next in line succeeds him.

There is no immediate compulsion to fill a vacancy of the VPOTUS or other cabinet level positions.

Any VP nominee would have to be approved by both the House and the Senate.

7. My theory
The "Cheney resigning" and "22 indictments" are propaganda to make the 5-6 indictments coming down the line not look like a big deal.

11. you must be 35 or under, right?
not old enough to remember 1973 and 1974.

In short,
1972, Nixon-Agnew re-elected
1973, Agnew resigns (in disgrace), Nixon names Ford VP, congress confirms
1974, Nixon resigns, Ford becomes president, names Rockefeller VP, congress confirms

12. Line of succession only applies if the President and VP both pass away.
Line of succession only applies if the President and VP both pass away or both become incapacitated. If Dickhead resigns, then the missing link will appoint someone. Now what I am not sure of is whether congress has to approve the appointment.

13. I predict a heart attack first--then a resignation. If Fitz is looking
at him I am sure he will be told before we are so I think there will be a medical emergency prior to the announcement. I also think if there is such an emergency, no mention of him will be made as far as indictments, but he will quietly step down.

15. Bingo, Carolinalady! Medical emergency. Coronary ICU at GW Hosp.
Cheney, in "critical condition," will resign. Bu$h will pardon Cheney, for humanitarian reasons, before the indictment comes down. If Cheney heads for the hospital in the next couple of days, it will come down this way (IMHO).
