"This president just gave himself a HUGE transfusion of political power"
David Frum, on Hardball, discussing Miers' withdrawal. "He now has the party united behind him."

Tweety's response was sort of "really?" He then asked if anyone who gets served an indictment should leave or continue working at the White House. He had to ask Frum the question several times because he kept stammering and trying to find ways to NOT answer it. He said "I think they should leave, BUT..." and then launched into some crap about Fitzgerald.

Oy VEY.

And, I am find out that none of these idiots are worth a shit.

22. Universities as indoctrination- yep.
Edited on Thu Oct-27-05 10:49 PM by Marr
The current political landscape is definitely an example of it, IMHO. You're right- "acceptable debate" is largely defined by a tiny, thoroughly indoctrinated segment of society.

They're taught to view the world in a certain way, they've been taught history from a specific perspective, etc., etc. It's almost like a priest class.

They're certainly not in those chairs because of their intellect. It's the pedigree, pure and simple. They've been groomed and approved.

It always makes me laugh when I hear people talking about "liberal indoctrination" at universities, because it's just so far from reality.

2. Huge transfusion of power?
Give me a f*ing break...

His SC nominee HAD TO WITHDRAW...that's not power.

Even if most of the Repub party agreed with the withdrawal...they're not united behind him for it.

moron. (I refuse to use the freeper spelling)

17. Mr. Frum is Canadian
and his mother was a very well respected journalist here in Canada (Barbara Frum). She must be rolling in her grave, the way her boy turned out.

Yes, but it gives Dems an excuse (and much more leeway) to go against WHOEVER Bush picks this next time around. I think most feel he won't be around for too much longer.

7. Tweety honestly sounded perplexed!
It's always hilarious (on those rare occasions) when talking heads actually pay attention to what they and their guests are blathering about.

9. Frum wrote that synchophantic ode to Shrub the 9/11 Hero, "The Right Man"
Gawd, did he get that one wrong.

Now, he's shape-shifting. He probably smells the blood in the water and wants to pretend he's a mammal, rather than being one of the little sharks. The ones that get eaten first.

Good luck, Dave. We're not letting you into the boat. Back to school.

10. I'm rapidly losing patience with David Frum
Although his recent behaviour is consistent with his weak grasp of reality ...

I started to suspect this after reading his contribution to a recent history book -- it was a collection of "what if things had gone differently at a crucial time" essays. It was interesting and thoughtful, up until Frum's contribution -- which was basically a satirical piece making fun of Al Gore. I had been expecting a serious analysis of things that Gore and his advisors might have done on 9/11. Even from a conservative, a discussion of the differences/similarities with Bush's approach would have been helpful.

I know it's possible to write a decent historical analysis without having heavyweight academic credentials, provided you've done your homework and are reasonable about investigating a wide range of possibilities. But Frum didn't even make an effort at decent scholarship -- he just made up a bunch of stuff and played it for laughs. It was an insult to the reader, and to the other contributors.

I've cut him a lot of slack over the years, because his mom was a major figure on CBC Radio. And I figured that his sister's book rating Canadian universities (which purported to be more authoritative than it really was, since it turned out that she hadn't actually visited some places and hadn't assessed the credibility of the information she was given) shouldn't be an indication of his writing abilities. But it's rather depressing to see him being just as sloppy.

11. Is he what passes for the Best & The Brightest of the young Bushites?
What struck me reading "The Right Man" was how shameless and unconvincing a liar he is.

Frum reminds me of many second year associates in Big Washington law firms. They are so sure of themselves -- but, they know nothing at all. By their third year, they don't even know when they're lieing any more.

15. I'm sorry to say that he's Canadian
When I learned that, I was at once chagrined and humiliated -- not just because he was supporting a regime which is opposed to our national ideals, but also because Bush and Co. are harming so many Americans, whom we consider to be our friends.

14. I think the Republicans are as confused as everyone else.
I'm sure some of them will not regain confidence in Bush unless he appoints a real right-winger now. I think he did serious damage with that part of the party.

18. Remember, it's Frum and the rest of the neocon cabal that were the
first and loudest to scream against Miers. They are looking to put someone on the bench who will support their agenda when the tough cases about war, banking, war crimes etc. come before the Court. Bush did exactly what they wanted him to do. It should not escape anyone that the main conservative base saw little wrong with Miers...ala Dobbson. The usual "we trust the President" crowd were steam rolled on this one and they really don't understand what hit them.
