1. I'll take him as Pres., VP
He is very handsome, and I love that he talks about poverty. I predict he will clean up in SC.

I have to admit, I didnt see the RFK comparsion that Edwards supporters have sometimes said, but I totally see it now. I would rather see Edwards give an inguration speech.

5. President Edwards' inauguration speech
would imply the end of the Bush* era. Thus, it would be the happiest occasion of my life, and indeed, of about 90 percent of all humanity.

That being said, I'd rather hear him make one hell of a concession speech than I would an acceptance speech at the Dem convention in Boston, though I wouldn't be losing any sleep if he did get the nomination.

7. Don't recall ever hearing one of those. Within the next 12 months
We're either going to hear Edwards give one of the most powerful concession speeches in the history of politics or one of the most powerful inauguration speeches ever.

I really hope it's the latter.

8. He's a great speaker
but he needs to remember that he is getting TV coverage on CSPAN and
sometimes other networks, so he needs to expand his Two Americas theme
more. I know he can and he should be cautious of a limited and/or monotonous
stump speech. Ms. Edwards is fabulous. I am looking at him very seriously.

14. That's exactly what I thought when Clinton ran.
For months I pleaded with my TV: Bill GETANEWSPEECH BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!!

Then I started seeing him moving towards victory. Then I started repeating parts of his speech in my head when I was on the train. Then I started thinking in Bill's voice things Bill had never said. Then I watched Bill win.

If someone who cares about politcs enough to post at DU is begging Edwards to change his speech, he's doning the right thing.

(And it's too funny to hear that you think he should change his speech because he's getting a lot of CSPAN coverage. Seriously, what do you think CSPAN's raiting are?)

Enjoy the speech. Everytime you hear it again, 1000 are hearing for the first time.

12. He's in a dicey situation, but he's more than equal to the task
People are going to be looking at him and turning up the heat to see if he can take it; many will be surprised how well he will.

None of the next batch of states is all that friendly for Kerry, so we'll see just how well the annoying herd mentality helps him.

Personally, I think that it would be delicious if the Stupor Bowl distracts enough to keep the status quo in place in SC.

This week will be his trial-by-fire, and if he does as well as he's able to, it could open a lot of eyes and give him a turnaround at just the right time. To come out winning at this point could be breathtaking.

13. concession speech
VP would be great, but the place I'd really like to see him is in Asscrofts chair. I think he'd make the best Attorney General we've ever had.

16. God forbid he ends up in the cabinet, let it be Sec of State
so he can put to rest the silly notion that a smart, competent, hard-working person with a good heart can't handle foreign policy.

18. President Edwards!
It will be nice to be able to use the word "president" again. I haven't been able to force that word out of my mouth since the Florida Fiasco, unless of course I was referring to President Clinton. I refuse to refer to Bush with the word President preceeding his name.

21. I would like to hear President John Edwards
rather than departing presidential candiate John Edwards. He is a great guy, I should have looked at him a long time ago, he really is a great man. Some of you guys compared him to my personal hero, Robert F Kennedy, I admit I didnt see it intially but the more I saw him, I am like this is a Southern Self-Made Bobby Kennedy. Great man, Edwards if Kerry gets the nod, let him be VP or AG. I want to see him in DC next winter when I go to the inguration.

23. Concession speeches are pure trivia
I hit the floor in a seizure of laughter when Chris Matthews and crew gushed over Gore's 2000 concession speech, saying it was a terrific beginning of his 2004 quest. A few months later studies indicated a significant chunk of Gore's voters were denying they ever supported him.

This is classic winner take all, and even the most eloquent concession ever will not aid Edwards or this party. He needs to have his hand on that bible come January 2005.
