Are religious conservatives crybabies?
All I seem to hear from religious conservatives these days is;

I support President Bush and I like him and he's a Christian and so on and so forth....

But in the same breath its;

-I don't support his nominations unless they are against Roe v. Wade AND verbalize it loudly

-I don't like his out of control spending

-I don't like his SS plan

-I don't like the tax plan

WHAT EXACTLY DO THEY LIKE?

Signed,

Confused by the message

The organizations that this sector of society has built are impressive. So how can its adherants be politically ignorant?

Conservatives and fundies like it all simple and easy. If it fits in the little, neat box, they don't have to think about it. They don't like to challenge their own minds, so it's outrageous to them that anyone else might challenge them. Politics, to them, is "of the world". To these people, politics is actually one of the "evils" they must endure before they are rewarded with their "rightful place in Heaven". The REAL and material world we live in is not what matters to them. They are obsessed with the "afterlife" when they "go to Gods Kingdom". They are the biggest bunch of whiners and "martyrs" I've ever met.

39. The whole thing with the sheep thing
is as follows: back in Jesus' days sheep hearders was a well-known job etc. and Jesus used a lot of examples from his time and age so people can understand them clearly. Sheep hearders know their sheep very well and knows when one is missing and in trouble etc. It's not to mean we're blind followers but the relationship between the sheep and the hearder. I hope I'm not confusing.

10. They are in the process
of waking up to reality. They were fed a bill of goods that said Bush was a Christian and so could be trusted with their complete and unwavering support. Well, it turns out he's a Christian like this used car salesman I know who works at a dealership where my husband was a mechanic. He'd brag about "talking Christian" to potential customers while he lied to them about the reliability and soundness of a vehicle, and then he'd take them for every penny he could get out of them. Lovely chap. He assured me I'd go to hell because I wasn't a Christian.

12. In the immortal words of brian k. reese
"I'm sick and tired of whiny Christians!!!"

It was a beautiful moment in one of our lit classes at our evangelical Christian college. We'd been asked to read the New Yorker by our prof, and a couple of the students got all offended at the short story (typical 90's kind of writing, actually) and complained to the Academic Dean about it, getting the prof in trouble and the New Yorker banned from campus as pornography. Still, they whined and whined class after class about how they shouldn't have to read anything that offended them at all in any way (in a Contemporary Lit class that wasn't required for anyone but English majors :eyes: ), and that's when brian snapped.

Several of us applauded, and it became a slogan for most of us. We'd whisper it in chapel (required attendance three days a week), we'd yell it in the cafeteria if anyone started in again about the class or anything else they were upset about, and some even made posters of it. Honestly, it's the only way I got through that whole mess--almost transferred (which would've lost all my education credits, as those almost never transfer) because of it.

24. That's what I decided back then.
It was seriously ridiculous. The Academic Dean compared us to middle schoolers and failed to see how teaching Shakespeare was more dangerous than some silly short story in a magazine. The prof almost lost his job, and the rest of the English Dept almost left. The English majors and minors all hated the other students in the class after that, making sure there were seats in between us so they couldn't overhear.

Honestly--they changed the rules to state that the New Yorker was now porn and that if it were found in our possession (they did random searches during school breaks and all), we could be kicked out of school. I proudly kept mine and left it out but never got caught.

Of course, at graduation, I mussed up the president's hair (mostly to see if it were real--it is), and that's what I'm now known for. :)

15. I like it when they whine about being "oppressed"
When legislation doesn't impose their beliefs on everybody else, their "freedom" to control other people by merging chuch and state is lost, hence they are oppressed, I guess. (Loved Jon Stewart replying to such a comment -- "Yes, SOMEday maybe we'll see the day when we have a white male Christian president in the White House!")

17. Believe me, they know oppression, that's for sure.
Fundies have been on the attack for so many years now, trying to deny rights to homosexuals, trying to outlaw abortions, trying to keep women from obtaining equal rights, and trying to impose their own morals on the rest of society, that non-fundamentalists are finally fighting back by speaking out against their campaigns, their media onslaughts, and their mistaken notions of truth.

The Fundamentalists love to scream oppression at the drop of a hat. It is the old adage that they can dish it out, but they can't take it.

41. That is annoying
I myself definietly agree with that. I get so tired of all of those who go out and whine and cry because they don't get their way with the law here in our country. It's really disgusting. At my church a lot of times people who lead prayer always thank God that we have the freedoms we do to be able to practice our religious beliefs. Instead of whining all the time the people should be counting their blessings and thankful for what the founding fathers fought for with the first amendment. I know I am all the time and it makes me sick when people like Ann Coulter want to do away with it. If they want to talk about being "persecuted" they should read the New Testament where there is real persecution. They aren't having their heads cut off, put in jail, outcasted, beaten, stoned etc. They get to have Christian radio and tv, music, concerts, movies etc. So they should be thankful instead of bitching and whining.

16. Growing up in a Baptist-ruled town, all I ever heard
was "he's a Christian" "she's not a Christian." That was how teenagers around me decided whom to associate with. And it wasn't just teenagers.

I'm still taken aback by how simplistic this worldview is. Nothing else matters, as long as he (SAYS) he's a Christian.

37. Well its like this....
If you're a Catholic girl from back when (and not all feel or behaved this way)

1. Never stimulate yourself, you'll go to hell

2. Kissing leads to sex and sex leads to hell

3. If you're tempted to have sex, confess it in the confessional with a "celibate" male priest who may or may not have sex with you himself if he gets the chance

4. Never question what the nuns define as sex even though they've never had it themselves or only have it with the priest who you met in the confessional

5. It is better to have sex with a Christian boy from another church, or school. Your sin will be better protected and God will see that you at least tried not to be sent to hell

6. Public school boys are dirty and you'll get a disease if you have sex with them but if you're willing to have sex with them then you deserve to get the disease and---you're going to hell

7. Catholic girls don't have oral sex. Ever. Never.

8. Catholic girls don't know what lesbians are even though they may spend 12 years of their education being taught by a score of them called nuns.

9. If a boy wants sex with a Catholic girl and she does not say No! immediately, you're going to hell. If you have sex and you get pregnant and then you're going to go to hell, Catholic girls must give up the baby only to Catholic families.

10. If you experience any pleasure from sex whatsoever, you're going to hell

26. The only thing
bad about Christianity is in my opinion, not many on the religious right really practice the ideals that Jesus/Yeshua set forth.

Jesus said, "many shall come in my name" and later on there is mention of "many false prophets shall arise and deceive many" and when I run into one of these types I begin to back up slowly and then say to myself, "feet don't fail me now".

It to me is the same used by bushit and those on the right. FEAR. Scare those into thinking and believing they know exactly what G-d wants.

Many fail to understand G-d is the Father of us all. Think about some of the things those on the right say and then see if a Father, heavenly or earthly would harm his children in the way those on the right believe. Chastising yes, but killing to make a point, NO!

When I read through the Gospels about the Pharasiee's they're exactly like the conservative Christians. I'm sure not all of them are like that but a lot of people are who call themselves conservative. And yes Jesus warned about false prophets and said you will know them by their fruits of their labor.

The hostage taking on the part of these people to amass all this power to determine an entire government agenda and who will serve on the basis on a single issue, (anti-abortion)is astounding. Imgine if it were taxes or poverty or homelessness instead. Between the hawkish new-con's and their reliance on war and the religious neo-con's who rely on 'values' we're in for a very expensive lesson in humility.
