Do we really know how much impact the hurricanes will have on the voters in those three states? No doubt, the entire states have been affected - not just the coast line and New Orleans. Families may hold grudges and look for revenge on some politicians. We shall see.

2. Very good question. Personally I think Trent Lott is outspoken
because he recognizes what you allude to. His recent positions aren't just out of revenge. Nobody injured by Katrina and Rita can be happy with Brown, Chertoff et. al.

3. AL?
Sorry, but yes they probably will...I was born and raised in South Alabama, so I can honestly say that lessons are never learned!! After all they are boycotting Aruba, and the governor gave a "Brownie...heck of a job" speech the other day,

4. MISSISSIPPI
- Haley Barbour is secure as Governor and may run for Pres in '08. He's spending a lot of time criticizing bush post katrina.
- Amy Tuck, LT Governor and former democrat is not overly popular
- Trent Lott has not said whether he will run again; I find that very interesting. He is 64 and the last thing I'd want at that age is six more years in Washington.

No doubt, South Mississipians will be looking for change, however the gop base is up north and those folks have, in some ways, indicated they don't want their state reps to get too carried away attempting to aid hurricane victims.

9. Hey, BOSSHOG! I hope ol' Haley does run for president..
can you imagine ANYONE who can actually speak the English language voting for him? He's created his very own mush-mouth accent. I've never heard anybody else talk the way he does. Only George W. B*shit has a worse fake accent...

10. And he's really distancing himself from bush
Edited on Thu Nov-10-05 11:08 AM by BOSSHOG
funny to hear him moan about his disappointment at bush's efforts to aid hurricane survivors. The same over in LA where all the republican officials have been real good democrats since the hurricane hit; wanting to help people and all. I hope he runs for President too. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that former lobbyist haley has some connection to jackemoff. That would be great election year news.

And Trent seems to be distancing himself from the republican party. Its a great show.

Thank God for Gene Taylor, not the ideal dem but a dem and a Vet to boot.

5. Yes, they will - count on it
The only important thing to the pathetic, misguided people "down here" is to vote against queers and baby-killers. Period. End of discussion. Don't expect rational behavior out of religious fundamentalists; it ain't gonna happen.

8. One slight ray of hope
is that they stay home on election day. There are some godawful hateful people in this state, all hating in the name of Jesus Christ.

6. It was Reconstruction after the Civil War
that drove the South to the Democratic Party.

Reconstruction II is in progress as we speak. It may do the same today, especially with a Carpetbagger president in charge.

7. I wish there was a way we could ensure displaced
citizens are registered and can vote, regardless of what state they were displaced to. It would be nice if the PO came up with some way to mail sign-ups to all those who have submitted change-of-address forms from the affected areas. Why wouldn't this be doable?

11. The foot dragging and non-responsiveness by the Fed. gov't.
to rebuild N.O. is directly related to the attempts to permanently flip the state red. The BS charges of La. corruption and non-accountability are laughable in the face of what is going on nationally. La. provides 6 BILLION annualy in oil revenues, of which they get a fraction of what other states get. The Feds have STOLEN from this poor state for the past 50 years, all while ignoring pleas for costal protection. Couple this with the efforts to put all blame on the current Dem. gov & Dem Mayor, and a strategy of ethnic clensing and smear campaign emerges.

19. What About Texas?
They Have Relocated 1000s of NOLA People Far Away
and they are now bulldozing their homes as fast as they can.

Will there be enough Dems left to keep even New Orleans blue, let alone turn the rest of the state blue?

On the other hand, What about Texas?

there are a LOT of New Orleans residents in Texas now.
Many who evacuated on their own went to Texas.
The quality of Texas food has improved already by some reports.

Those who lived in Texas all along may not be to happy with those
in charge of state and Federal governments either, after Rita.
I mean, who could have predicted that if you tell most of Houston
to get into their gas-guzzlers and drive North, that you just might
have horrible traffic jams and everyone would run out of gas?
Just about anyone with half a brain, right?

If TEXAS turns blue, the 'Pubs are TOAST.

12. Louisiana could go either way - the REAL story is Texas
Many of the poorer residents of New Orleans and surrounding towns and suburbs have already decided they're not coming back, but are instead putting down roots in TX, OK, AR, and other states.

Texas is going to be the one to watch. For geographical and economic reasons, those who could flee Katrina and Rita under their own power tested the relief efforts of major Texas cities to their limits. Depending on how many of the evacuees and refugees from Katrina and Rita decide to put down new roots in Texas, it could dramatically change the political landscape in 2006.

Back in 2004, Texas Democrats got their butts kicked - but a lot of the local and regional races were much closer than expected, despite Tom DeLay's redistricting initiative. The whole point of redistricting was to turn blue Congressional districts red. Now those red districts have just welcomed an unexpected influx of predominantly Democratic voters.

Fasten your seat belts...

13. Yes, in Alabama, they probably will
As a native of Alabama, and having been involved in politics there (mainly Mobile Co.) all my life, I know for a fact that there is a deeply-rooted "tradition" now that "we are Republican" - come on, these people voted for Goldwater in 1964 because of LBJ's policies - besides the fact that they got Jack Edwards as a Congressman (one of the most egregiously-unhelpful-to-the-masses fucktards of all time), then Sonny Callahan, and eventually Jeremiah Denton, Fob James, DICK Shelby, and Jeff Sessions (don't get me started), it was widely-rumoured that the Feds would close down Brookley Field (at the time, a major AF installation - physically so big that they even landed the Shuttle there once, albeit on a 747) ...

They voted for Goldwater anyway, LBJ closed down Brookley, hundreds were unemployed and dislocated, and they got Edwards for 20+ years - incidentally, what did they do with Brookley Field? - why, nothing of course - they left it to small businesses (for a while, only "Frozen Gardens," a frozen-food distributor, and a local University's photo archives) and built the new airport almost on the Mississippi line ...

Now, if the question was about stubbornness? - check; was it about blithering stupidity? - check, got that, too - was it about having a grudge so deep that they would cut off their nose to spite their face? - yep, got that, too

Maybe some Democrats will pick up seats in the central part of the state, maybe even some in the North, but most of Alabama is W country, and I will be very surprised if the Reps. lose their majority there for at least a generation

They still don't like blacks or gays. Just look at the election in Texas Tuesday "protecting marriage" and there is your answer.

PS We don't l;ike Mexicans in Georgia either, a little added hate for the repugs.

Down there all you have to do is wave a flag and thump a Bible. Alabama and Mississippi are totally lost causes.

I would however…Keep LA in play.
