I am a Democrat because...

I have an idea for a commercial. It would not single out Bush or any individual GOP member but would tout the Democratic Party while pointing out GOP shortfalls. I need short reasons why you are a Democrat and what the GOP does that contradicts that reason.

For example:

Elderly lady: I am a Democrat because I beleive all Americans should have equal rights under the law.

Text on screen: The GOP supports a constitutional amendment that would limit rights for some of our citizens.

Young mom with small child: "I am a Democrat because I think we should take care our children."

Text on screen: Since the GOP took power more than 12 million children in America have lost their health coverage.

Young African American student: "I am a Democrat because I believe we should help our elderly citizens live without worrying about how to pay for their medicine and how to heat their house."

Text on screen: Since the GOP took power Medicare payments have increased 17%.

Text on screen: Home heating costs are predicted to double this winter. Yet the GOP has done nothing to control the petroleum industry.

Any other ideas? Keep them short since it's for 30 second commercial and you want it to stick in people's minds.

but something like:
I am a Democrat because I believe the American economy must work for all Americans, not just for corporate entities...

With the words about jobs going overseas under Republican rule, and tax cuts favoring corporations at individuals expense


Also:
I am a Democrat because I believe in a healthy balanced budget
While the screen gives national deficit figures under Republicans vs Democrats

Also:
I am a Democrat because I believe in buying U.S. made products and supporting democracy
While the screen shows the trade imbalance with China and how the U.S. (WalMart) by importing so many goods from China is actually supporting Communism.

i proposed a similar commercial to a website during the past with a number of examples along the same lines during the election to one of the sites that actually was making commercials...

the idea was to show regular people (especially those one might think ought to be republicans) to show A) we believe in core value (all children should have health insurance; we go to war only when we have to; government of and by the people (not corps), etc) and B) we are not the people the pukes spin us to be (not all "NY liberals").

People should see/say "hey, they person is like me; i believe in the same thing"

7. See this is the kind of thing we need

That's what I had in mind as well. Have people who are "normal" Americans, farmers, teachers, mothers, etc, people who the Right Wingers have coopted as the typical Republican, and show people what real Democrats are like.

The ads would not be attack ads in any way. They would simply show normal people who are Democrats and tell what we stand for and what are beliefs and values are. Then contrast them to the way the GOP runs the government.

So if we come up with these ideas, who can we get them to who might actually use the ideas and how?

I think the time to start with ads like this is now.

I like the idea of the imagery coupled with the non-expected TPs.

Here's some more:

An older average white guy in a suit sitting in an office: I'm a democract because I believe the government should stay out of people's bedrooms.

A young Hispanic guy hanging out on his porch at home: I'm a democract because I believe in real tax fairness.

A middle-class soccer-Mom type in a van at an athletic field picking up her kids: I'm a democract because I believe our soldiers deserve better.

A hip, young woman drinking coffee at a cafe: I'm a democract because I believe in protecting and preserving Social Security.

A middle-aged black nurse on the job: I'm a democract because I believe in saving endangered species.

A handsome, fit, jogging white guy: I'm a democract because I believe in preserving national parks.

A young slacker-type playing guitar: I'm a democract because I believe in paying people living wages.

A young black soldier on leave playing with his younger brothers and sisters: I'm a democract because I believe in the separation of church and state.

Add whatever fact/screen roll info you want.
