Gov. Bob Taft's approval ratings have hit single digits.

But Ohio Republicans shouldn't hit the panic button, a new statewide poll suggests.

A Zogby International online survey, conducted a week after the Nov. 8 election and released yesterday, shows just 6.5 percent of Ohio voters view the embattled GOP governor very or somewhat favorably. Barely 3 percent rate his job performance as "good" or "excellent."

"I'm not aware of anyone who's ever sunk lower," pollster John Zogby said.

ZOGBY, BY THE NUMBERS
• 6.5%: Ohio voters who view Bob Taft very or somewhat favorably. Barely 3 percent said he was “good” or “excellent.’’

• 61%: Number of poll respondents who say Gov. Bob
Taft should have resigned because of ethics convictions.

• 33%: Those who say the Taft administration was the victim of corrupt individuals who scammed the state.

• 38%: Percentage
who say they trust Democrats to lead state government.

• 37%: Percentage who say they trust the GOP to lead state government.

1. Ohio voters, evidently, are dumber than dirt
They think Taft is the ONLY Rethug involved in this? It's the entire party, up to their necks in sleaze.

3. I was encouraged that for the first time in years, albeit by a slight
margin, polled voters think Dems would be better able to run Ohio government than Repubs.

ANd it will only get better for us when the ugly Repub primary for Governor gets cookin.

5. That's nothing to be too encouraged about
If the Dems are so muddled that they cannot even come clearly out ahead of Republicans, there are big problems that need to be addressed. If anything, the poll speaks to the problems of Democrats as well as Republicans.

4. More numbers tell the whole story...
Ohio GOP should be very worried. Taft isn't the only one with abysmal approval ratings. DeWine isn't much better, and Schmidt sunk heavily in the last few days, after her idiotic attack on Murtha.
The only major Ohio Republican with even halfway decent approval numbers is Voinovich.
I don't think that 38 vs. 37 number tells the whole story. The Ohio GOP is in tatters, from the top down. When voters step into the booth, the independents will abandon the GOP, and they account for most of the state.

7. Anybody noticing a pattern.........
THE GOP IS COMPLETELY CORRUPT. There are those that have been caught over corruption and those that should be caught over corruption but haven't been yet. The criminals are running the show and it is pathetic.

8. well, fuck me if i'm wrong, but he must be guilty of much more egregious
felonies if he is hanging on so desperately despite the total rejection by his constituency.

think about it. he MUST be complicit in MASSIVE CRIME if he's pretending to be governor now, after all this. otherwise he would have stepped down.

Ohio has always been looked down-upon by the rest of the nation.

it's perhaps time for us to take Ohio seriously and remind the good people of Ohio how important they are!
