3. I noticed a couple of stories on the local news

this evening. One about a former mental health facility that is now taken over as a National Guard facility (with most of the mental patients out on their own somewhere) and another one about someone trying to facilitate military contractors with the various military facilities in the state.

On top of all the spying on us stories and all that - and all I could think of was that the Military State is here. If you can work it for your own gain - then you're probably making out - and if you're not - well.... (good night and good luck - I guess).

that was 25 years ago...regan's 'election'.....it seemed pretty goddam far fetched that a guy who was synonomous with repression at berkley and the free speech movement etc, a former 3rd rate actor ('bedtime for bozo' for gods sakes!) who had been a head of screen actors guild (ie a labourite!)before helping the house un american activities committee, a guy who had possibly raped a woman while in college, and someone who's sleazy connections made frank sinatra look like boy scout- well it defied understanding then and it still does. regan never won the 1980 election (it's simply impossible. why would millions of people who live paycheck to paycheck elect someone so utterly creepy to them? who liked regan? boors and bloodsucker capitalists, that's who)

this is harsh but i have given up. the country is full of idiots and is run by bigger ones. i figure i should step out for awhile and wait for everyone's head to explode so everything can settle back to normal...i am removing myself from society in 2 weeks and am about to spend the next few years bumming around and traveling and see the world; life is too precious to put up with this shit.

all this depression era thinking does wear away, but remember it didn't have to be this way. 30 plus years ago, it looked like the future was astonishing, the planets, then the stars! noone factored in that the engine of civilization itself could be spiked, not by insiders who, apparently, got very jealous of any idea that the poor, the black, the other/alien could share sidewalks and buses with THEM....no fucking way! they said.
