Poll question: Cantwell vs. Stevens Smackdown: Who are you betting your money on?
Edited on Thu Dec-22-05 03:57 PM by LynneSin
In case you haven't heard Hurricane Stevens is coming to a state near you to raise havoc against every democrat that put Alaska's best interest first instead of the Oil Corporations. Seems his #1 target is Senator Maria Cantwell who was quite vocal about why the Arctic Refuge needs to be protected.

Senator Stevens was frothing at the mouth prompting some democrats to want to trap him and have him tested for rabies....

http://www.nwprogressive.org/weblog/2005/12/alaska-sen-ted-stevens-threatens.html

"I will go to every state and tell them what you've done," Stevens said, his anger rising with each word. In a break from Senate tradition, he mentioned Cantwell by name several times. "I will go to Washington state many, many times. I'm going to explain the bill to everybody in the country."

Senator Cantwell has been a great member of our democratic party and stands to have an relatively easy time winning re-election in 2006 (Not Ted Kennedy easy but definitely not Rick Santorum 'easy' either)

So in one corner we have Senator Maria Cantwell of the great state of Washington:

And in the other corner from the great state of Alaska because 43 senators cared enough to keep it great none of which was this guy - Sen Ted Stevens:

Who do you pick to win this battle?

1. Gimme Cantwell in 5--no 3--rounds
Stevens has a glass jaw and a bad case of bully-itis in that his mouth writes much bigger checks than his ass can cash.

2. I'm not Maria Cantwell's biggest fan, and for good reason
But she's been consistently right on this one.

11. Thank you, I'm not her biggest fan, either
In this case, though, she has truly fought back.

Julie
has not forgotten Maria Cantwell's vote on the IWR, the PATRIOT Act, etcetera

13. I'm more in-tune with east coast democrats
and Maria was always on my good list because I know she's supported by Emily's List

So what gives?

15. Short version
>So what gives?<

I once called Senator Cantwell's office (after one of her wimp-out Republican appeasement votes,) and asked her staff member to write on a piece of 8 1/2 x 11" paper "Which party sent you to Washington, DC, Senator Cantwell?" complete with my name and contact information, and tape it to her office door.

Long version:
She votes with the Democrats when it's convenient for her. She's standing up now because it's politically expedient. Senator Patty Murray of the great state of Washington is the one with spine. We're also very lucky to have Jim McDermott and Jay Inslee in the House.

IMHO, YMMV.

3. For a Hulk, he sure does whine alot
I think Stevens' promise to go to Washington state to edumacate the people there is as likely to be broken as his vow not to vote for the bill without the provision for ANWR oil drilling.

14. I have three words for Mr. Stevens: Bring. It. On.
>go to Washington state to edumacate the people there<

I wonder if Stevens would like five minutes of edumacation from me on how little oil is truly available in the ANWR, how badly his party underestimates those of us who are against drilling there, etcetera. I'm a native of Washington state. We'll see how he does with those from the Seattle area, who have a very high rate of literacy and a very low tolerance for BS.

8. Stevens
sounds like he's getting senile. His rants don't even make sense. Can't imagine that that whiny old man will play very well in Washington State.

18. Here's the article
Former SAFECO CEO Mike McGavick was making strides in his race against Sen. Maria Cantwell. That was until the Senior member of the Republican party had decided to pay McGavick and Washington a visit. Se. Ted Stevens of Alaska had a fundraiser with McGavick and went crazy calling Cantwell a tree-hugging feminist Liberal and then shouting down the crowd when they didn't enjoy his name calling.

Prior to this visit McGavick trailed 50-43 in our latest poll he now trails 55-35
