"Smoking Gun"...what the democrats DIDN'T ask Alito!
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 03:09 PM by fooj
I've been thinking about the vital importance of the PNAC
documents and the need to educate the public.
IMO, if one of
our democratic senators asked Alito "Are you familiar with the Project
For a New American Century...and if so, do you subscribe to
their beliefs?" I am convinced that the question would have
stopped these hearings right in their tracks. Can't you hear
the audible "gasps" in the room? It would have been a perfect
opportunity to empower the American People with some info re:
this maniacal regime's "gameplan"!!!

What do you think the chances of convincing Dean to run an ad
printing the Mission Statement of the PNAC?
IMO, this is
our smoking gun. If PNAC had been mentioned during these
hearings, hundreds of thousands of Americans would have been
afforded the opportunity
to at least learn about who these people are,
what their mission is, and what they have done to our country.

What are you thoughts?

Peace.:patriot:

2. I DO wonder why PNAC isn't mentioned more, but I think
pols have reservations about the average American's smarts and attention span. Would it go right over most everyones' heads?

4. I have often wondered...
....why nobody outside of a few alt web sites makes mention of the PNAC. It IS the smoking gun. And it is the thread that ties 9/11, Iraq, tax cuts, spying...everything together.

28. Vanity Fair
has had a few recent articles covering the development of and current adventures of PNAC. Once you get past the perfume samples, the details are enough to give one very bad dreams. These people are ruthless. and they have a plan for this country.

6. Had the exact same thought yesterday
I fantasized Kennedy spending one of his rounds of questions grilling Alito on what he knew about PNAC. It would have caused a firestorm of controversy and discussion and made many people aware of it. Are the Dems afraid of the fallout, or are too many complicit?

:wtf:

7. YES. PNAC MUST to be brought to the front!
It IS THE 'gameplan' for the ruination of our democracy by these fascist neocons. We KNOW the signatories to the plan. Every American should read and understand the Project For a New American Century, and the 'White Paper' (Mission Statement).

This is the most important question that SHOULD have been asked of Alito, and was swept under the puffy, fluffy rug by the committee dems.

FOOJ!!!!!! This is an important question! Is there a way to post this in GD for more exposure?

12. YES. I totally like your idea that the DNC run full page ad...
of the text of the Mission Statement. That would wake people up to the TRUTH, in their own revolting, neocon, fascist, anti-democracy words!

19. Why not get liberal blogs together to run full page ads.
If we got donations going to run full page ads nationwide it would surely make an impact.
I think the day they take down the PNAC website is the day we have won, until then every American should be aware of the PNAC's plans.

15. K&R. And, since Lieberman seems to be getting the message ...
... that a bunch of folk are preparing to support a challenger to his seat and has indicated that "filibuster is on the table"(http://firedoglake.blogspot.com/2006_01_08_firedoglake_archive.html#113708745137628488), perhaps folk should start calling his office urging him to ask the "PNAC questions."!! Talk about poetic ...

Not what's really important. There must have been at least forty threads on DU alone today with the same old "Look at poor Mrs. Alito", blah, blah, blah....

If it was all a set-up, a stunt to divert attention elsewhere, it sure worked good.

24. Unitary Executive and Adam Ciongoli
It seems like a conspiracy that the Democrats don't ask Alito, or inform the public, regarding PNAC and the Unitary Executive theory.

This is a link to an extensive history of the theory of the Unitary Executive and its implementation by the Bush administration:

http://www.users.muohio.edu/kelleycs/paper.pdf

Samuel Alito in a 2001 appearance before the conservative Federalist
Society, he said he continued to believe in the idea of the \"unitary
executive.\" That concept holds that the Constitution gives the
president all federal executive power, and means Congress likely could
not grant agency heads powers outside the president\'s reach.

Another "smoking gun" I personally have noticed is Adam Ciongoli. Identified by Sen. Durbin during his 20 min. questioning session as Alito's "Corner Man" with whom Sen. Durbin had a dispute with during one of the breaks at Alito's confirmation hearing. He has been Alito's fiercest supporter and has been featured on all of the major news networks and identified only as a "former Alito Clerk" but he is much more than that. Adam Ciongoli has been described as John Ashcroft's right hand man and was one of the key drafters of the Patriot Act. He also was in charge of handling the flow of information, or lack thereof, to the 9/11 commission.
He is currently general council for Time Warner. He is also a believer in the Unitary Executive theory.

Time Warner owns CNN among other things. Why, oh why is the guy who wrote the Patriot Act working for Time Warner.

Another thing I want to mention that they ask these Judges about their "Judicial Philosophy" but during the Presidential election no one asked Bush about his "Presidential Philosophy" (Unitary Executive Power)

Well that's a different topic all together.

33. Very interesting person.
From the article:

The administration also decided that the commission would have to channel its requests to obtain documents and interview personnel from the executive branch through the Justice Department. Adam G. Ciongoli, counselor to the attorney general who was assigned to take on this role, says he has merely acted as a "facilitator."

But Commissioner Max Cleland, a former Democratic senator from Georgia, says that Mr. Ciongoli is acting as a political gatekeeper, "cherry picking" the documents the White House wants to withhold. "It's obvious that they're sifting the information to the 9/11 commission now," he says. "We're way, way late here. The picture is not encouraging."

Mr. Ciongoli announced Monday that he is leaving the Justice Department to become a senior vice president at AOL Time Warner Inc. A spokesman at Justice said that another department official will assume his commission work.

<snip>

One reason the commission has only begun conducting interviews is that talks with Mr. Ciongoli over ground rules for interviews had become bogged down, according to people with knowledge of the talks. Among the sticking points were whether the administration will require minders to be present when staffers are questioned, and whether investigators will be able to interview staffers from federal agency field offices without first notifying their Washington headquarters.

"I think it's always a good idea to have administration people involved in the process as much as possible to make sure the information is being handled properly," says Mr. Bartlett. Mr. Ciongoli says that pending the outcome of the negotiations, the government has declined to turn over many documents and other information. "Obviously until an agreement is reached in particular areas no one is going to produce anything in particular," he says.

From your post: "Time Warner owns CNN among other things. Why, oh why is the guy who wrote the Patriot Act working for Time Warner." Yes, and why is a senior vice president of AOL Time Warner acting as Alito's "corner man"?
