34. Well, inasmuch as Ms. Rhodes is NEVER happy...

...it'd be kind of pointless for me to wish her anything. She's one of the few hosts on Air America that doesn't really find anything funny. So maybe I should just say "have a day," although that may be too optimistic for her.

37. Hey, it's possible to "pursue" happiness...

...although no one on earth can guarantee you can ever catch it. (That was a Robert Heinlein line.)

It's just that I've never gotten the impression that Ms. Rhodes ever wanted to pursue happiness. I'm not even sure she wants to stop her pain.

Don't get me wrong. I agree with much that she says, and politically she's working for causes I believe in. But that has little to do with her personal, emotional satisfaction. I get the feeling that instead of "Bounce Your Boobies," her theme song should be Peggy Lee's "Is That All There Is?"

And there is a point to this ramble. I think that a lot of people on DU have this terrible gnawing pain, and it isn't really due to the desperate fight we are waging; it's their own psyches. It is possible to fight the good fight, to be angry about evil, AND to be of good cheer.

It may be that the angrier you get, the longer God lets you live - but isn't living a long, angry life just extending torture?

I kind of worry that Ms. Rhodes is letting her enemies define her and her way of life. And my birthday wish for her is that she should seek peace and prosperity in her own soul first; it will help her bring peace and prosperity to her audiences, and ultimately to the world.
