Bumper Sticker I saw this morning--on a BMW...
"I lost my country to the government."

I bet the driver of this car (a very good looking male in his 40's) got a nice, big tax break from Junior. If he lives anywhere near where he was driving, he probably has lives in a high-end neighborhood and has a white-collar job.

However, he's angry enough to have a bumper sticker like that on his BMW.

Remember at that fancy schmancy dinner when Bush said, "Some people call you the elites, I call you my base?". Junior had better think again.

Not only is his base unhappy--but they're now displaying their anger and disgust toward this administration for all to see.

2. Owning a BMW does not mean you are a Republican..
nor does this mean that he got a tax cut.

I put myself thru college. I worked my ass off for a company and now I work for myself - for the last 15 years.

I owned a BMW - I worked very hard to get that car - and I will fight to my death for my country...

Will you?

10. There's no need to get snippy...

Most people who drive BMWs are in the upper income brackets. I imagine that this guy probably makes a good living and he was driving in the 'burbs. I guessed that he had a high income--based on his car, appearance, clothes and the neighborhood in which he was driving.

I never said that everyone who owns a BMW is a Republican. Furthermore, I do not think that BMWs are bad, or that the people driving them are bad.

However, I think this guy may represent a demographic. I believe that many people voted for Bush with their wallets. They wanted tax breaks and they believed that Bush would cut the size of government and social programs. I believe a large contingent of these people are now angry at Bush. Many true conservatives seem to be.

I thought it was possible that this guy represents part of Bush's eroding base.

I'm sorry if I offended you--or your previously owned BMW. That wasn't my intention.

We're all suffering under BushCo. Please remember that.

15. Everyone who has money isn't necessarily a Republican
I wouldn't assume this guy was part of his eroding base. He may have been a Democrat all his life.

16. You are making to many assumptions...
BMWs go for 30-40k now days similar to a SUV. That in no way indicates 'upper brackets'.

I was not snippy -

Just that our country is begin destroyed right in front of us all. And we all post about trivial shit - somethings it is good, tho, to lift our spirits.

In case some don't realize this - our country has been taken over by terrorists who are destroying it.

Guess I am very upset that I as one person cannot stop it.

18. Naw....
I have a 1994 red BMW convertible that looks brand new. And I am responding to what you said because I sometimes feel guilty about my Beamer, because it is a foreign car, but then again, I always wanted a sports car, and this one was affordable (relatively speaking), so my hubby bought it for me. Mine has a DemocraticUnderground bumper sticker in the back window, so no one will mistake me for a Bushie. I would have made the same assumption as you once upon a time, and it is probably correct more often than not. On the other hand, my brother-in-law, who has a much larger income than us, drives a hybrid. You just never know.

5. Not popular among the Have's
In this town, I paid close attention to certain yard sign trends just
before the 2004 election. In a very upscale part of town which I frequent,
but in which I do not live, there were rows of houses with Kerry/Edwards
signs. Very few Bush/Cheney signs. In fact few that I saw anywhere in
town. One point is that the rich often had enough sense to vote against
the madness. Another point is that the informal yard sign poll agrees
with the exit polls and disagrees with the official election results
brought to us by proprietary software on black boxes.

6. Upper-middle class realizes: I'm not rich enough to vote (R)obber-baron
Many people in my family/friends realized either before 2004 or now that they are so far away from the Halliburton/robber baron class that it's laughable. They are beginning to see the erosion of the upper-middle class and now view an hour-glass economy...the robber baron group and then all the rest lumped together.

9. I Own A Bimmer
I am very proud of my car and I don't have any bumper stickers on my E46. Note that if I thought that a bumper sticker would save my country from the government, I would cover it in stickers. One of the most liberal people I know drives and races an M3. He's a very cool guy and very liberal. I hate stereotypes.

13. i work on wall street, and shrub is NOT popular
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 02:56 PM by unblock
i started working here in the early clinton days and there were plenty of republicans, and a lot of clinton hating.
there was also a surprising amount of support for clinton as well -- wall street is not quite as conservative as you might think.

however, the vast majority of republicans keep whatever support for shrub they have to themselves. many voted "d" for the first time in 2004. those who still do support him usually think their tax cut trumps all, and since they have nothing to cover for the naked greed (unlike reagan), they're quiet about it. it's getting mighty hard to support this guy, even for hardcore loyalists.

i would venture to say that if there were truly fair elections and a balanced media, kerry would have gotten AT LEAST 55% of the vote, probably close to 60%.

the shrubbies hold on power is based on media control, bribes and blackmail. it is NOT based on popular support. that's just an increasingly transparent cover.

14. There are many that post here that automatically assume
that anyone driving an expensive or larger vehicle is a Republican.

Why?

I drive a GMC Suburban. It is useful for business purposes. It gets lousy mileage, but can carry quite a bit of stuff around. Does that make me a Republican?

I also own my own business. I worked like a dog to make it successful, many times over 100 hours in a week. Am I a freeper?

Please stop, those of you that would automatically assume the political ideology of a person by the type of vehicle that they drive. It is juvenile.

Oh, and the driver of the BMW may have been a doctor that donates time to a local free clinic. Ever think of that?

26. I drive a Jaguar...
& am not a freeper. A big base for the GOP are god fearing poor folks who live in the country, which has been a base for conservatives since the days of the monarchy. Not sure why they keep voting for people that keep screwing them over. Folks that live in major cities tend to be dems & white suburban neighorhoods are usually GOPers.

22. I think the vast majority of Americans have no idea
how small a crowd shrub was addressing when he made that statement. And that section of his base is not unhappy. Perhaps the section that thought they were who he was talking about is but they may or may not have yet discovered they're not really in that group.

FTR, I agree with others who suggest you can't tell party affiliation by the car someone drives or the money that they make.

Does that make me a pretentious, wealthy, suburban elitist? I am far from it, as my wallet will attest. I happen to believe that it is a superior engieered vehicle. Plain and simple.

Althought I hunt and fish, so that probably makes me suspect to you as well, no?

27. Another BMW driver here...
Edited on Fri Jan-27-06 03:55 PM by Ally McLesbian
I drive a 2yo BMW 3-series, and am saving to buy another one next year.

I didn't get any tax cut from W. In fact, as a single, my taxes actually went up a few cents.

I had a Kerry bumper sticker on my BMW.

And I'm far from alone. Despite BMW's conservative Catholic Bavarian roots back home in Germany, Los Angeles is full of progressive BMW drivers.

Now, don't even get me started on Volvo drivers voting for W (and there are LOTS of them... I would love to tax them at the highest Swedish tax bracket).
