2. There's a number of reasons, but the two biggest are:
1. Laziness.

2. Fear of losing access to the White House. It's a common threat, and if a news organization loses access, they might as well hang it up.

5. I think 2. has some merit
But by sucking up to the WH, they are transforming themselves from journalists in Jeff Gannon's. You'd think Katie would bristle at behaving like an actual whore.

8. Ah, but if the NYTimes/W.Post Lost Access & Gave It All To Democrats
whilst letting the public know the WH refused them access.. Bush/Rove would be screwed.

So I don't buy the access theory.

Rove needs the News Whores more then they need him.

6. It's simple
Individuals are trying to make a living. Individuals must please their bosses. Media outlets have been consolodated, so that there is a CEO-type at the head of each of these 6 or so large corporations that control all the major news media. And wouldn't you like to know who heads up these large corporations? CEO-types, who own, and cater to the needs of, the right-wing traitors who have taken over our country, that's who!

If we Americans ever do get in control of our country again, one of the very first orders of business must be divestiture of these news outlets from thir corporate handlers.

9. that one gets my vote
No one actually has to come out and say "support these policies" or "support these politicians." They know the views of those who sign their paychecks.

We've heard many stories about Rove calling the media and complaining TO THE REPORTERS about their
reporting and their tone.

Remember the exchange btwn Michael Moore and Matt Lauer? Moore said during the commercial break, "Gee Matt, I wish you would go after Bush as much as you go after me. Maybe we wouldn't be in the predicament we're in now." Lauer told him he would love to, but it's difficult. He then mentioned that "the White House" called NBC to complain about Lauer's "tone" and his boss asked him to adjust accordingly.

As Plame investigation details are revealed, we see the incestuous the relationship between the White House and the media. If you are a good reporter, you get access. If you dare question these thugs, you are denied access and your boss gets a phone call. You probably don't get invited to their parties as well. And who wants to be sitting home on a Friday night--all alone--when you could be at Tim Russerts' house drinking Chivas with Paul Wolfowitz and Bob Woodward?

These guys operate by intimidation and fear. The EXPECT reporters to follow their whims. It's all about the reporters playing the game, fitting in and being a part of something big.

The White House encourages people to behave like high school kids from a bad John Hughes movie.

11. Bush has 10,000 files on people that he uses off site of the White
House. He must have the goods on the players and media because he certainly hasn't got the goods otherwise.

12. It can't be ratings, obviously
If one of the mornign network shows or the cabal "news" outlets were to run with the TANG story or * still being a drunk or the Plame story Abramoff or the true story of the Iraq war, the ratings would go through the roof. So the ratings argument doesn't pass the laugh test.

13. They are "OWNED" by their corporate masters
and in debt like most americans. They know they do not "deserve" the high pay they get, but are more than willing to say and do whatever it takes to keep their status and wealth.
