Specter Outrageous Statement!!
Just heard on CSpan Arlen Specter state that the thing he liked most about Bush's SOTU address was, "that the US is leading the charge to spread democracy around the world, and NO DEMOCRACY HAS EVER ATTACKED ANOTHER COUNTRY..." Hoo Boy! And this puke voted for the invasion of Iraq, and probably Grenada, Panama, Nicaraqua, Afghanistan, etc etc

1. If I remember correctly, Hitler was elected
in a democracy.

2. I can see his point.
The American democracy died December 12th, 2000, plong before the Iraq invasion.

You can't count anything before that, because the media pretends it didn't exist.

3. That has to be the mother of all...
"...can't see the forest for the trees" statements. Absolute arrogance blinds absolutely, I guess.

5. Probably it's the party line for the post-SOTU press coverage and
of course, Arlen Specter is at heart a company man.

I wish he would use his alleged intelligence and rise above a very nasty administration. That he won't or can't does not speak well for him at all.

Shame on Senator Specter.

6. What about argentina and Great Britain?
Those were two democracies were they not during the falklands war? (I know GB is technically a democratic monarchy but the monarchy is a figurehead)

The US and Mexico were two democracies I thought in the mexican american war (I know santa anna was de facto leader but thought they were still a nominal democracy)

What was Spain in 1898?

India and Pakistan, I thought at least one of them was a democracy during their multiple wars.

I think he needs to come up with a different talking point.

9. In fairness to Specter, he was undergoing chemo when
Bush did that pre-emptive strike thingie on Iraq and when it was announced that there was no WMD or Al Qaeda ring in the country.

10. Yeah, too bad he missed this little quote
"Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."
