Leno just said that Clinton has been advising the Dubai company on
the US deal while his wife is fighting it. I haven't been around my internet(S) for a couple of days and wondered, is this true???

10. Freepers never trust Clintons.......
....whether or not they agree with Bush! Check Countdown's website tomorrow. They'll probably have a transcript of tonight's show where Keith talked about it.

2. I believe
Clinton advised the company to have a 45 day waiting period. Hillary is against it all together

I read the story. He advised them about offering the 45 days among other things.

4. A lot of this either started or continued at full pace during Clinton.
He really pushed free trade through. The worst though was the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

So really we need to not deny this. He was all for this outsourcing and deregulation that are really hurting us today.

In fairness he would not have handled it as badly as does Bush. But he did advocate for it.

5. It's not exactly as it has been portrayed.
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 12:48 AM by AtomicKitten
The Dubai folks asked him about two weeks before the deal was finalized about how to make the deal go smoothly, and he advised the 45-day period to look at appropriate security concerns.

Ironically, it's our government that couldn't care less about security concerns.

But the Clintons are definitely on opposite sides of the issue. Spicy.

On edit: The tee-vee pundits feel Carter and Clinton seeming nonplussed about this deal doesn't really help the chimp.

8. Just politix as usual...
Hillary's running for re-election, and who knows what, so she's gotta jump on the bandwagon and trash talk the deal.

Bill's been having regular dealings with the UAE for years and thinks they're pretty good guys. His contribution to this whole mess has simply been to tell them to be careful to do everything by the book.

After what they've been through over the years, this little flap should blow over in no time.

9. yes, Olbermann covered this tonight too
Evidently Clinton has become friends with the UAE and was the one who told them to go for the 45 day cooling off period.

On Olbermann, he talked about how Bush's base is starting to disappear over this port deal and the fact that Clinton is trying to help with it is not going to help with that. You know Republicans, they think there is nothing worse than a Clinton! And to hear Clinton supporting this deal is like the kiss of death to them!

Meanwhile, Hillary is cheering for the other side........

11. Somewhere on DU, there is an article about this.
Unfortunately for you or anyone who wants the link, I'm too tired to go looking for it. But it was posted today. It basically said that although Bill Clinton has offered the Dubai company advise (after they called and asked him what they should do) he is against them running our ports. He told them that they should agree to a 45 day review. And that was pretty much it from the article. Although it had a misleading headline - leading one to believe that he and Hillary were at odds on the ports.

14. Until I read your post, I didn't catch the irony
He is against the idea of them running our ports, but he told them how to do it in a way that would make the aquistion run more smoothly. WHAT???

WHAT HYPOCRISY!!! He is a Former President and potentially "Fist Husband". He doesn't need money - why pleasantly advise them on how to make a deal he disagrees with. I suspect he disagreed only when he saw the uproar.

He should have immediately attempted to alert the government, then the media before this came to pass.

Triangulating? maybe
did he supporting globalization? definitely

regardless W's ass is in the stew over this. Blaming or citing Clinton doesn't get W out of it.

Everyone loves him. (Except freepers and some here at DU.) He is a citizen of the world.
