U.S. Sets Plans to Aid Iraq in Civil War
I get a sick feeling they're making it up as they go along. And how does planning for a civil war equate with fantasies of progress?

U.S. Sets Plans to Aid Iraq in Civil War

Security Forces Would Bear Brunt

By Ann Scott Tyson
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, March 10, 2006; Page A01

The U.S. military will rely primarily on Iraq's security forces to put down a civil war in that country if one breaks out, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld told lawmakers yesterday.

Sectarian violence in Iraq has reached a level unprecedented since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003 and is now eclipsing the insurgency as the chief security threat there, said Army Gen. John P. Abizaid, the top U.S. commander in the Middle East, who appeared with Rumsfeld.

If civil war becomes reality, "it's very clear that the Iraqi forces will handle it, but they'll handle it with our help," Abizaid said later when asked to elaborate on Rumsfeld's remark.

The sobering assessment of sectarian tensions in Iraq shows the extent to which the Feb. 22 bombing of a holy Shiite shrine, and the ensuing revenge attacks that left hundreds of Sunni and Shiite Muslims dead, has shifted military calculations on a range of fronts, including what constitutes the top security challenge and prospects for further reductions in U.S. troop levels this year.

6. Exactly, Sir
The "Iraqi security forces" in full-bore civil war will be leadng participants, divided between the bulk of police and line units that today are essentially comprised of Shia militia adherents, and various elite units operating today under closer U.S. control that are made up of ex-Baathists, mainly Sunni Arab.

This statement is even more idiotic than the usual level of drivel we have come to expect. The only real question remaining is this: are they really that ignorant and foolish themselves, or do they simply think the people of the country are that ignorant and foolish, but know better themselves?

2. So which sect is W for in this genocide and ethnic cleansing?
Which side will the security forces help. What a blanked up mess. In the meantime, we lost two marines yesterday.

3. They will handle it. But they will handle it with our help.
They will provide an answer to 2+2. We will assist them in arriving at the answer, which is 4.

ooops...did we just give them the answer?

4. "...Aid Iraq in Civil War"
"a civil war in that country if one breaks out"

now which is it after weeks of denial. Is this now an accepted circumstance in Iraq? ... in civil war?

or just easing the populace here into the reality since catapulting them didn't fly?

5. We'll Support the "Patriots" against the "Traitors"
And we'll flip a coin to decide who is who.

I'm reminded of Dr. Henry Jones, Sr.'s, line, upon discovering his son Indiana had brought along his study notebook on the Grail, only to have the Nazi badguy grab it.

"I should have given it to the Marx brothers."

7. lol -- the confusion this represents is hysterical.
it's already a civil war -- who exactly are we helpng?
shouldn't ''they'' be described for the sake of definition for the american people?

if it's a civil war today -- why wasn't it a civil war yesterday?

where did the ''insurgents'' go?

8. If this part of the "freedom agenda," they need to scrap it.
Better yet, run the Bush cabal out of town.
