Radical Religious Right are the abused, yet faithful co-dependents
of the GOP.

Watch the rhetoric the GOP has already begun to use--"The Democrats stand to gain the House and Senate next year. Boogity-boogity-boo!"

What they are really saying is:

"Give us just one more chance. I know we said we'd take care of gay marriage and abortion and stem-cell research and flag burning THIS TIME, but things got tough at work.

We just can't keep our minds on YOU all the time, but we PROMISE that if you give us just one more chance, things will be better next time (year).

Let us have some more money to go out with the boys (read: mega-corporations) this time and we PROMISE to take care of YOU from then on.

We're sorry we hurt you again, but give us just one more chance. We swear, we'll never hurt you again.

We promise."

2. Spot on ......
.... and how do we work this to our advantage? Surely **we** hold no allure to the religiously insane. For them, it is the GOP or nothing.

I just answered my own question.

3. As you know, it's nearly impossible. Just further the analogy.
You point out this abuse to them and it only strengthens their self-defense mechanisms.

It's so painfully obvious when we aren't directly involved, just like it is in any co-dependent relationship. That's what is so damn frustrating about it.

Sigh.

4. It's like I have always said...
these people aren't used, they are abused! When are they going to figure out that the GOP is not going to give them anything they want?:nopity:

5. Yes, but their whole faith is dysfunctional. God can get away with a lot
of stuff like drowning and burning his kids that other parents would get the death penalty for doing.

7. Yanno .... there are times when I hate the
religiously insane even more than I hate the neocons.

6. Good analogy.....
Hopefully the Religious Right will get over this syndrome soon and retreat into their historical stance: not going to the polls at all.

I was watching Gloria Steinem on television giving a talk the other night. She was talking about voting, and how the far-right 30% in this country (which includes the Religious Right) is getting most of its people to the polls these days, while only 50-60% of the rest of us are voting.

I think this is how some many people who should know better get the idea this country has made a huge shift to the right.
