3. They know US overthrew their democratically elected govt. to re-install
the Shah who ruled brutally, and that the whole idea that US interferes in the region to promote democracy is an illusion - a BIG LIE they have perpetrated on the American public.
7. No way. They only know as far back as the Ayatollah Khomeini, and know
NOTHING about what led to that takeover. They really don't even understand more than about 10% of what happened in IranContra.
Where do you live that you're surrounded by people who have a great grasp of history? I only see a minority of people who do around me and in the newsrooms I'm familiar with, even here on DU where you would EXPECT even recent history to matter, but rarely does.
11. Boston area has always been more history-oriented - that would explain the
disconnect.
Plus, since Kerry was the one investigating and exposing IranContra and BCCI, you very likely had far more news article about the back history than the rest of the nation.
