25 weeks left: What have YOU done to help ELECT DEMOCRATS in 2006?
Edited on Wed May-17-06 12:05 AM by ih8thegop
As I write this, we are 175 nights away from witnessing the election returns pour in.

How happy we are with those election returns will depend in part on how active we are in throwing the bums out and getting a new Congress controlled by Democrats. That means it is up to us to work hard on behalf of Democrats before and on Election Day, so they can work hard for us after the election.

That said, my question to you is: What have you done to elect Democrats?

For my part, I filed an affidavit to run for Democratic precinct delegate and wrote a letter to the editor of my local paper.

As for you...?

1. Door to door Canvasing next Sunday all day 35 miles away.....
in another district (my district is safely Blue for-Ever!)

Donated to a Dem candidate last week....as I donate weekly directly to a needy Dem candidate.

I wrote 12 LTTE to various newspapers in 4 states where I don't reside requesting endorsements for my prefered candidates.

I Will do more as we get closer to election day! :patriot:

Am attending monthly Dem party meetings. Will volunteer for Bryan Kennedy to defeat Sensenbrenner. How's that?

4. Co-Chair of my county Democrat Central Committee
Belong to the Dem womens group, helped start a new Dem group, Blue Lake Tahoe Dem, donate, donate, donate, monthly to Clark, CD 4 in CA, Charles Brown running against Doolittle, numerous house parties, donate, donate, donate, Working closely with 2 federal campaigns, sponsoring a "cruise on the MS Dixie" Zephyr Cove for Jack Carter on June 4th, those interested in attending please pm me. I make a small donation to every candidate that Clark has endorsed.
Donations can be time, service and money. I try to travel to any event for a Dem candidate to be supportive etc. It is the best volunteer job I have ever had, so glad I am "retired". Oh and do my School Board thing, but that is not free, they have to pay me 73.00 a month.

My husband says I don't work? All of us Democrats should be exhausted by the time Nov comes along. This election is so important that I just continue to go go go. I invite candidates to school functions, make sure my local and state candidates are aware of what is going on in our County. There is so much you can do.

5. I started blogging again
The difference this time is I'm getting people who don't lurk on message boards to check out my blog so they can see what's really going on. It's not enough to preach to the choir anymore. I'm using my blogging skills to get the word out to family, friends, coworkers, or anyone else I run into offline.

6. I'm precinct chair, campaign manager for a State Rep
We're setting up 'coffee's' in precints in my candidate's district, but will be trying to get the Dem vote out for ALL of our candidates.
I am going out of my way to court young Dems (very hard in our conservative county) by helping them sponsor Matinee Saturdays, where we show "Uncovered" "Fahrenheit 9/11" and "Nobelity."
Working on creating walking and calling lists...

11. Begged them on my hands & knees to filbuster Alito.
That would have united & fired up the base like never before- and would have insured an '06 victory.

I continue to send money to those who did listen. I have not begun any of my usual volunteer work yet- I guess I'm still waiting to be inspired by a non-comedian.

12. Voted for several 2 days ago.
Donated to one. With the primary done, I will also donate and campaign for the D challenging the R incumbent in the house for my area. An uphill job in this area, but I'll be doing it anyway.

My question for you:

What have you done to make sure the DEMOCRATS you are working for are going to actually move progressive issues forward? Do their actions count, or is enough that they are DEMOCRATS?

14. Let's see. Canvassed for County Clerk, phone banked for
State rep, canvassed for a state rep in another district, stuffed envelopes for one congressional candidate, drove to another congressional district to canvass for another candidate.

I'm also organizing weekend canvassing for the county Democratic party starting in June.
