Fran Drescher is thinking of running for congress (no joke)
I dunno if anyone else heard her interview on todays Stern show, but she let that be known. It was clear that it wasn't some sporatic thought, that she's been seriously thinking about running from somewhere "in New York", she didn't say what district.

What do you think? I think went to highscool in Queens, so we've got to already have a liberal democrat there. Maybe she could move to a place with a Republican that she could potentially knock off.

1. I don't think I could sit through a speech if she talks
like her Nanny character.

2. Her voice is less anoying than Charlie Rangel
and I'd say the visual helps make up for it to a greater degree with her

26. I like her!
Her voice too. She should bring that gay butler with her, though. What was his name again?

15. I've always liked her voice
Maybe I have a higher tolerance for pain, but I'd like to hear an argument between her and Rosie Perez when they're both at their squeaky best... and whatever happens after that, bonus.

16. Her voice doesn't have to sound like that at all
consider her in "This is Spinal Tap".

18. That's true
One of the few episodes of the Nanny that I caught featured her in a scene with her mother, who was talking non-stop. Fran ate something hot then went through silent torture as the pain hit - miming choking, drinking a lot of water, falling on the floor before picking herself up, etc. The normal schtick. Then when she talked, she said in a very low, husky normal voice, "Wow, those really clear the sinuses." Then her voice returned to normal. It was somewhat amusing.

24. She actually has a much less-nasal speaking voice than her character
I used to cringe at that voice (I am a West Coast/Hawaii person) until my husband confided to me that he loved how Fran Drescher sounded in The Nanny. Apparently The Nanny sounds like a slightly older cousin of his that he adored as a boy (he came to Calif from the Bronx and I guess modified his accent before I met him).

No disputing tastes, especially when they strike a heimisch chord.

As for her running for office, the real Fran Drescher seems like a reasonably bright person, and if she's Progressive, more power to her.

3. Are you assuming she is going to run as a Dem or did she say that?
Somehow I do not sense she has a very liberal viewpoint.

7. I'd absolutely assume so. She made a clearly anti-Bush comment
She's a fun Jewish chick from Queens who's been in the arts for decades. Not too many republicans among them.

9. she is definitely a Democrat. Why do you think otherwise?

I also recall reading how she persuaded a repub member of the cast of her last show to vote for Kerry. http://www.keepmedia.com/pubs/USATODAY/2005/04/08/804499

14. I'd say it would be more logical for her to move to Peter Kings district
Edited on Tue May-23-06 01:06 PM by Bombtrack
more people would want to have a new/retirement home in center Island Long Island, Suffolk or Nassau (it covers parts of both) than to Staten Island.

Although I think Natalie Portman is from the third, if any hot jewish actress would run for congress I'd want it to be her.

...if she put her head to it. That would be funny! And maybe very good.

the only New York City district held by a republican

wonder if she has any connection to Staten Island

I worked for the guy who tried to unseat him in the last election, Frank Barbaro.
At least Drescher would have the recognition among Staten Islanders that Barbaro never got.

10. She's been getting more and more politically active lately.
Edited on Tue May-23-06 12:59 PM by woodsprite
I know for one thing, she's trying to build backing for some bills to support more cancer awareness/detection and treatment programs. She had been treated for the same kind that I do (uterine) and even with all her big bucks and name recognition, it still took over 2 years for her docs to take her symptoms seriously and diagnose it. She may even be into more areas now. I haven't been following that closely.

I would support her! She certainly seems to have a no-nonsense attitude and speaks her mind - 2 things I admire most in people.

But there were actual NY Dems on deck to run for Moynihan's seat when Moynihan retired...of course, then *SOMEONE* went and "cleared the field" (gee, I wonder who...??).
