The precedence of extreme dirty politics...
Unfortunately, the Republicans are changing the way America does politics. No longer will we have a few simple crooks stealing funds down in Louisiana or a few dead people voting in Chicago, but the present regime has changed politics in a much larger way. Votes will be stolen by states, not precincts. Lies and deception will be used to personally destroy political enemies in ways that were never imagined in the past. The Democrats will have to change or they will become obsolete. They will not permit that to happen. It's sad what is happening.

1. We need to be fighting the propaganda with the Truth. Truth,
wow, what a concept.

2. I agree. The inevitable result will be a very rough justice, one way or
the other.

Either the system finds a way to correct itself or the system is finished, and that will lead to the collapse of the Republic and to civil war.

There are some signs that the system is straining to bring the operational heads of the GOP dirty tricks division to justice. Abramoff and Cunningham have been convicted, DeLay and Libby are under indictment, Rove has sung before a federal Grand Jury, Cheney is next to be deposed. Shrub is a lame duck with numbers are down in Nixon territory. Hastert and Frisk are under multiple active investigations. The smarter rats are swimming to shore, their little tails leaving wakes behind them. They'll be easy to trap later.

On the other hand, the private defense manufacturers, telcoms, and domestic surveillance contracting companies that fund and profit from the corruption of government are still very much untouched. Along with foreign intelligence agencies, multinational energy companies, and investment banks, they are the source of much of the money, strategic thinking, and dirty-tricks expertise that have fueled the rise of BushCo. Until they are also brought to judgment -- personally, I hope to see Delta Force troops dropped into the headquarters of Carlyle Group -- the core of the cancer will remain that is destroying democracy and human progress.
