DU's State Forums -- Interesting patterns of activity
If folks here were to guess which of the five state fora receive the most traffic, I'll bet 95% of you would get it wrong.

I was quite surprised at some of the states making the top five in message traffic:

Texas has a commanding lead at 34,595 messages
The Lone Star state is followed by California, with 22,877

Now some of you might say that's no real surprise, but look at the next three on the list:

Minnesota takes the third spot with 19,719
The Buckeye state of Ohio takes fourth with 18,595
Rounding out the top five in this Midwest trifecta is Wisconsin, with 15,617

From there the numbers drop off significantly.

What also surprised me was the light traffic on some state fora, such as New York. With only 6,334 messages it trails even the much smaller midwestern state of Iowa. And one would think that the politically aware state of Vermont would be humming, but it boasts only 419 messages compared to the 2,582 of its neighboring state, Maine.

Now what does this all mean? Beats the hell outta me, but I thought it was curious.

1. It kinda makes sense...
Texas and Cali have much higher populations than anywhere else, of course.

Ohio was a huge battleground in 2004, and has a contentious senate election in 2006. So does Minnesota.
