WTF did Hastert mean....
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 02:00 PM by Brundle_Fly
When he said "The Family Got What it wanted"

Re: The Page's Family.

It's been driving me nuts since I heard it last night on CNN in his sit down interview. No one is discussing what it could have meant or even mentioning it sounding odd. I have seen the interview three times now, it was said, what does it mean?

:argh:

1. it's garbled, but hearing neospeak from bro-in law and sis, he means
they were too embarrassed by the event, so they did not want to proceed. Also, their interests are in line with the GOP's family values strategy of blaming Clinton. Ergo, they family got what it wanted.

3. It probably refers to Alexander's saying that the family of the page
requested that charges not be pressed/the investigation not be furthered after some of the initial correspondence was brought to Alexander's attention.

5. According to him the family wanted Foley to stop contacting their kid
That was all, according to Hastert, he was required to do. The spin is, family complained, just wanted it to stop, they told him to stop, he stopped, case closed, nothing more needed to do.

Of course the next logical question is why is that the only responsibility that you had- to satisfy the family? Did you read the emails? Did you request copies? Was there any further investigation? Why wasn't he told to stay away from all pages at that point? Why would you risk the safety of pages by assuming that it was an isolated incident without much gravity? How could you conclude this without any sort of inquiry? How could you let someone responsible for protecting children from online predators remain in that position after this accusation?

Nope, all he needed to do was please these total strangers. Stop writing their son. Problem solved. Bullshit!

Does anybody remember when Hastert said Brian Ross was full of it when he said Hastert was under investigation for bribes?
