it's the havoc it wreaks with your internal organs that kill you. One of my very best friends died at the age of 21 (kidney and heart failure) and I have another friend that I've know since 1st grade. He's still alive at age 48. of course it's sans legs. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

the hospital? I think I read this onFriday, and if he's still hospitalized, it must be very serious.

9. Long hospitalizations for diabetics are different

and usually mean there's something else going on like an infection. Infections can make blood sugar levels go sky high. Diabetics need to be monitored pretty closely until the infection is under control and those glucose levels can be controlled by the person's usual regimen.

A hospital stay over the weekend is not unusual, in other words.

Diabetes sucks for anyone. I hope he gets better and I hope a brush with death teaches him that spending his life sucking up to evil men in the name of personal profit is no way to live.

4. Chris is lucky that he lives in a country with a federal gov't that believes in science

and is committed to applying its tremendous resources toward researching diseases like diabetes. He's luck that he doesn't live in a country which wastes billions of dollars a year on things that do little more than make the rich and powerful wealthier and more powerful.

Diabetes is a physical illness--true enough. Science and many doctors like to blame over weightness (obesity) as the culprit for diabetes ...... however, in my family line, diabetic diagnoses have sprung right after high impacting life-cycle transitions. i believe that while diabetis is a physical illness it is triggered by an emotional underpinning in the person's life.

That said, chris matthews put out so much of himself for bush ... bush's nakedness cannot be denied anymore... could this have in any way affected loud mouth tweety who bleets and blathers about honor and integrity so much.

o, the possibilities.

anyhow, whatever any of it is, may this serve as a time of re-evaluation for matthews where truth might become the underpinning of his integrity.

(of course)and for conspirator theorists, he could have just been "poisoned" by poppy's henchmen if at any point poppy and/or dear junior felt tweety was no longer toeing the line.

including blindness, vascular and neurologic compromise, cardiac problems, etc., etc.

Can't stand the bugger, but diabetes is a cruel disease when out of control.

15. Why the attacks on Chris?

I got here through a Google search trying to get info on why Chris Matthews was absent from his show. Some of the attacks on him here seem strange to me. This is someone who opposed the Iraq War from months before the invasion, unlike most Democratic Pols, including Kerry and Hillary. A search on Google shows he has been a long-time activist for diabetic causes. I don't think he should blatantly use his show to promote his personally favored charities, such as the ADA. He has supported stem cell research, as I recall. So why all the nastiness? He's been wrong on some issues, such as voting for Bush the first time, and admits it, which is more than most people do. He served in the Peace Corps. He worked for Jimmy Carter and Tip O'Neill. He is fairly even handed in giving time on his show to various sides of issues. His personality is a bit strong, but it has to be to run this kind of show. You'd rather O'Reilly or Hannity? Come on, people, have a little sympathy for the man.
