Michael Moore - Fahrenheit 911 Revisited .........
Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 08:33 AM by global1
One of the things that really got and still gets me upset about the Repugs and * supporters is their complete and utter disdain for Michael Moore.

When F911 came out I went to see it the first day it was aired at the theaters. I encouraged all my Repug and * supporter friends to go see it. What I heard from them was how much they hated MM and wouldn't even take in this documentary to make their own decision on it and evaluate it for themselves. I even offered to pay their way to the movie. Instead they took Rush, Hannity and other RW and * apologists opinions and labeled F911 as crap. They didn't go to see it.

When the DVD came out I bought extra copies and passed them out to these same friends. I know for a fact that none of them ever viewed the DVD. They wouldn't even give it a chance.

One thing I learned for myself is that I want to get both sides to an issue and evaluate and form my own opinion. I'll listen and read other opinions than what I believe and then formulate my own opinion.

The Repugs and * supporters won't do this. They take what they hear from the RW talk show hosts at face value and go with that.

Now I hear from some of these same Repug and * supporter friends that they are finally coming around to thinking that this invasion of Iraq was not necessary. They are finally coming to think that * was wrong.

When I ask them if they watched F911 yet - they say no and that they won't - they still hate MM.

I ponder the question as to how many of our young men and women were killed since F911 was released and wonder how many of them may still be alive today - if these Repugs would have went out to see this pic - and took the message to heart and supported a pullout back then and stopped * back then.

How many of these 2,932 dead soldiers would be alive today. How many of the wounded and permenently wounded would be whole today?

I have a problem dealing with my Repug friends today as I hold them somewhat responsible for these deaths and disablings. I know I will never treat these so-called friends the same way as I did before * decided to go off to Iraq.

I am dismayed that even today many still support * and his yen for victory in Iraq - when most rational people know that it is unwinnable and that we need to cut our losses now.

How many more will be killed and maimed before they get the message.

As an aside - I watched the movie JFK recently. The Donald Sutherland info dump to Garrison in D.C. still gets me - particularly the part where he said that JFK was looking to end the VietNam war and was killed because of that. If JFK would have not been killed - there might not have been a VN War Memorial in D.C. or it may have been much, much smaller.

I don't know how many people ponder that thought either?

1. The "true believer" republican mindset just does not allow them to

GOP Blues
Where We Went Wrong

By Dick Armey
Sunday, October 29, 2006; Page B01

Somewhere along the road to a "permanent majority," the Republican Revolution of 1994 went off track. For several years, we had confidence in our convictions and trusted that the American people would reward our efforts. And they did.

But today, my Republican friends in Congress stand on the precipice of an electoral rout. Even the best-case scenarios suggest wafer-thin majorities and a legislative agenda in disarray. With eight days before the election, House speaker-in-waiting Nancy Pelosi has already begun her transition planning.

<snip>

Gingrich and I and a handful of true believers in Ronald Reagan's conservative vision set the goal of retaking the House. The "Contract With America" outlined our platform of limited government. This vision appealed to both the social and economic wings of the conservative movement; equally important, it included institutional reforms for a Congress that had grown increasingly arrogant and corrupt. The contract nationalized the vision of the Republican Party in a way that unified our base and appealed to independents. We championed national issues, not local pork projects or the creature comforts of high office.
<snip>
When we act like us we win. When we act like them we lose. Let's win.

and work with everyday, are the same way. Someone here submitted a great piece yesterday, coining it "willful ignorance". Maybe someone can link it.

These folks will continue to defend this thing until the end. They have not done their due diligence as we have and have no intention to. The ship is being shot full of holes from within and they will faithfully go down with it. They will have to hit bottom before they could ever change.

It is extremely frustrating for those of us who do our research and know better.

When I hear the RW talking points out on the jobsite, I now just walk away as I have tried and tried to no avail.. I have finally come to the conclusion that it is hopeless to even try to convert them. They will have to find it out for themselves.

3. I had the same problem with my Mom recently over Outfoxed
She actually called CNN the "Communist News Network" with a straight face. I have a copy of the Outfoxed DVD and I told her that if she just gave it an hour she'd see what Fox News was all about. She refused. I said, "But what if they're lying to you? Wouldn't you want to know that they are lying and trying to manipulate you?" She refused. It's amazing to me. They find a psychological comfort in these fixed positions. I really believe it.

4. Interestingly enough, a lot of DUers despise Michael Moore.
Many of them cannot articulate why, others hate him for campaigning for Ralph Nader in 2000.

Just so that you're not disappointed, if your Republican friends saw Fahrenheit 911, it is unlikely that they'd like it. That's been my experience.

Cindy Sheehan is a whacko and Al Gore is a Robot, when he's not busy being a Wild-eyed Librul.

5. F911 still hasn't been proven wrong
Edited on Tue Dec-12-06 09:24 AM by Canuckistanian
MM saw that the war was a sham a long time ago. The rest of America is just starting to catch on, and they think thay're making this "discovery" themselves.

Just watch F911 and "Why We Fight" together and you will show anyone just what this war is about.

8. The powerful part about F9/11 was the newsreel/video content
Michael Moore is Michael Moore. He doesn't pretend to be something he isn't. He could have stayed completely out of the film and it would have just as powerful because of the video clips he used in the film. That's why diehard supporters of Bush don't want to see it, because it rubs their noses in the nasty truth about who bush is.
Now, I did like the part where MM goes up to members of congress with recruiting brochures for their adult age children! It just demonstrated what they're really about!
Go Michael Moore!
