And Launching his campaign at the Henry Ford Museum! Sure, I've been there, lots of nice old cars and trains but, correct me if I'm wrong but, wasn't Henry Ford about the most Anti-Semitic Uber-Capitalist EVER!?!?:banghead::rant:

2. The Ford museum does not celebrate Ford...
...that was kind of a manufactured outrage, it's a great museum.

Having said that, Romney is a flip-flopping carpetbagger. I honestly don't think he will be President.

9. Question.
Why do you call it a "manufactured outrage?" While true that the museum does not "celebrate" Ford, it bears his name and contains much of his history. It is not to say that it is not a great museum.

12. If you have been to the Henry Ford museum you would understand
Edited on Wed Feb-14-07 04:51 AM by Bluebear
It really does *not* contain much of his history, it is more a Smithsonian-style museum of American arts. Current exhibits include:

# Celebrate Black History
# The Eames Lounge Chair: An Icon of Modern Design
# New Exhibit: Goldenrod
# New Permanent Exhibit: Liberty and Justice for All

Permanent exhibits:

http://www.hfmgv.org/museum/map.asp

Agriculture, home arts, furniture, clockwork, jewelry, made in America, automobiles and trucks, early flight.

You could as well say that anybody who appears in a vehicle bearing Ford's name "honors" him. I am sorry that the NJDC took umbrage at the announcement taking place there, and the fact that Ford was a xenophobe and anti-Semite is now well-known; I don't know that it was yesterday.

13. I haven't been.
I have no doubt that it is a wonderful museum. But, when you say "manufactured outrage," I can only say "Snickers." That is what some here accused us of as well. You may be right, it may be a 'tempest in a teapot,' but the announcement was not in a car that carries his last name, it was at a museum that was named FOR him and dedicated BY him. In all honesty, this doesn't concern me all that much. There are real anti-Semites, still living, which are of more concern to me, many of them "pretending" to be 'progressives' and liberals. This announcement from a second-rate mayor is really of little concern to me. I was just curious to your wording.

30. Sorry, maybe I should clarify the Henry Ford Museum Comment...
...and it is this.

Michigan is a VERY large and diverse State. Of all the places he and his handlers could have chosen, why did they pick the Henry Ford Museum for his announcement, instead of all the other places he could have chosen like:

University of Michigan or any of more than 100 other Michigan Collages and Universities, which would say to the audience, "I care and am concerned about Higher Education and all it's benefits and the problems facing American family today in achieving that goal..."

Or

At a struggling Auto Factory, or even one that's doing O.K., which would say he understands things a not all Wine and Roses here in "Average America"...

Or

At the Michigan State Capital or Detroit, or Grand Rapids, or any of a dozen other smaller town City Halls around Michigan that would say, "I care about "small town" "real people" and working with Local and State Government...

There are literally Dozens of other places he and his PR people could have picked to make this announcement so, what does making this announcement a The Henry Ford Museum, named for and consisting of items collected by a man who most American by now, have learned or at least heard said that, he was not only Extremely Rich, but also extremely Anti-Semitic and a major raciest.

Plus, most people seem to forget that, instead of buying and moving some of Americas most important Historic buildings to his collection at Greenfield Village, effectively steeling the history from those small towns, he could have paid for the on-site restoration of those buildings, which would most likely have helped support those small town communities, instead of just satisfying Henry Ford's passion for collecting.

So, maybe I'm reading to much into the site of his announcement, but really, what message does this site say to us? To me, it says, "I can relate to the Super Rich, win at any cost, Uber-Capitalists and don't think much about the Average American who is NOT doing well in this bogus "...things are Great..." Bush economy."

That's all I'm saying. I know he's not a Democrat, but this guy, and where he made his first announcement, just scares me.

29. The Dems should keep reminding everyone he is a Mormon.
I doubt that there's one person in America who hasn't been a little annoyed by Mormons coming to their door and being extremely pushy about trying to force their religion on to them. Don't flame me, my entire family is Mormon and they annoy the Hell out of me.

33. My Hubby's family is Mormon. Wait 'til Middle-America gets a load
(pun intended) of Mitt's magical undergarments; or retroactive baptism of the dead; or the 'secret-name' bestowed upon the wife by the husband, known only to him so he alone has the power to pull her 'through the veil'; or the 'oath and penalty' recitation when being sealed in the Temple.
How can one take someone who subscribes to that crap seriously?

40. My, my. In all the years I went to the Mormon Church, no one
ever mentioned that little mess. Wasn't there also a reporter in Salt Lake City who apparently uncovered some document that, in essence, proved that Joseph Smith was just plain full of shit. The reporter's car exploded one day and he died. Can't remember his name, but Google is my friend.

6. Romney has NO chance of getting elected
He might steal it like that shit in the white house did but he won't get elected.

I know it's faux news but:

"According to a FOX News/Opinion Dynamics poll conducted in December, 32 percent of voters said they would be less likely to vote for a presidential candidate who is Mormon. Forty-five percent said they'd be less likely to vote for a Muslim, 50 percent would be less likely to vote for an atheist and 53 percent would be less likely to vote for a Scientologist."

Only 9 percent said they would be more likely to vote for a candidate because he is Mormon, considerably more than the 5 percent who would be more likely to vote for a Muslim candidate, 5 percent for an atheist and 4 percent for a Scientologist.

Nineteen percent said they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who is a member of the Christian Coalition and 24 percent said they would be less likely.

Seventeen percent said they would be more likely to vote for a candidate who is black, and 21 percent said they would be more likely to vote for a woman candidate.

There was one good bit of news for Romney at the time: Only 14 percent of those questioned knew that the former Massachusetts governor was a Mormon. The bad news: 43 percent said they'd never heard of him."

11. Big Love...
An HBO series that started last year. Kind of a black comedy about a polygamous Mormon family. It's great, really, I can't wait for the next season. But for a lot of people it may just reinforce all the worst ideas they have about mormons (bizarre, polygamous, cult-like etc.)

14. Find out what some people want and say your for it.
Heck Father Bush did the same. It is getting in front of something and the power that counts. These are not people who live on their own values as they have few but on what they think will get them something. It some times works. More times than we would like to think about. I would say that we do not often put in men or people who think in any other way than what we think.
