Obama says U.S. must withdraw from Iraq unless reforms made by Iraqi government

HENRY C. JACKSON | AP | March 10, 2007 08:34 PM EST

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Illinois Sen. Barack Obama on Saturday said the U.S. will have to withdraw its troops from Iraq, regardless of the costs, if serious reforms are not made by the Iraqi government.

"In the absence of those conditions we're just throwing money away," Obama said during a campaign stop in Dubuque.

"We have to be honest that, in the absence of these changes, if these changes aren't made, there is not much we can do," to help the Iraqi people, he added.

An estimated 2,300 people attended a town hall meeting to hear Obama on the first of two days of campaigning in Iowa that was to include stops in five eastern Iowa cities.

Aides said Iraq would be the focus of the trip, and members of the audience were given copies of a speech Obama gave opposing the war in 2002, when he was still a state senator.

"It's time to end this war and bring our troops home," Obama said Saturday, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd in the Loras College Field House.

He said there are no good options left in Iraq.

"We only have bad options and worse options," he said.

3. Throwing money away is making Bush rich
Money doesn't go away it just changes hands. Follow it. You'll see it end up in one of Bush's crony weapon-making, oil burning, meat producing friends, and ultimately in Bush's hands.

4. we need to bring them home now
the war will end when the iraqi people get tried of killing each other or another saddam takes control. the more i read about iraqi history i have found it`s far more complex than anyone in the whitehouse can grasp.they put our military into a war that they could never win in a thousand years. history will not be kind to the presidency of george bush..

5. Your key words are 'a thousand (or more) years.'
What made this admin think they could ignore cultures where religion prevails? Look at the Protestants and Catholics in Ireland, the Israelis and Palestinians, and know that we were never going to change this with so many religions involved? It's not and never was about spreading democracy, and who asked them if they wanted it to begin with?
