http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/03/bob_barr_comes_.htmlABC News' Z. Byron Wolf Reports: It goes without saying that the former Georgia Congressman and Bill Clinton inquisitor Bob Barr has undergone something of a reawakening since he was redistricted out of his House Seat in the 2002 and lost the Republican primary in another district that same year.
For starters, he has become an outspoken critic of the Bush administration, especially where it comes to the Patriot Act. He told Rolling Stone that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should resign in the wake of the firing of US Attorneys being investigated by Democrats on Capitol Hill. He agreed to introduce Al Gore at a speech. Then, Barr left the Republican party in 2006. Now he's a libertarian and one of the top links on his website is to the ACLU.
But now the cirlcle is complete. Barr's office confirms that he has signed on as a lobbyist with the Marijuana Policy Project, a group that aims to legalize Marijuana, especially for medicinal uses. The man himself is not currently doing any interviews on this latest development. Perhaps because the irony is too sweet. Besides the impeachment, Barr is well-known for the "Barr Amendment", by which Republicans in Congress blocked attempts by the District of Columbia government to legalize the use of medical marijuana as part of the DC appropriations bill in 1999. To illustrate the evolution - it was the ACLU, now linked on his website, that helped lead the fight against the Barr Amendment.
