"Clyburn sings Clinton's praises in post-debate review"

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The most prominent and influential Democrat in South Carolina said Friday that the first debate of the 2008 presidential campaign did not fundamentally change the early race - but that Hillary Rodham Clinton did very well, Barack Obama did not fare as well, and Joe Biden did the best to emerge from the second tier.

"I don’t think it changed the race at all," Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., the majority whip of the U.S. House of Representatives, told McClatchy Newspapers in an interview.

But he singled out Clinton, a senator from New York, and Biden, a senator from Delaware, for their performances.

"Hillary Clinton did herself a lot of good," Clyburn said. " She looked crisp, in control."

Asked what specifically he liked, he said, "She stepped up to the plate ... she knocked it out of the park on the security issue."

He was referring to her response when asked how she would respond to an al Qaida attack on two American cities.

2. Was her statement about a quick retaliation to an attack such a good idea?
First we must have good intel about who are the culprits. Taking care of the emergency here seems to be a top priority. Also making sure another attack isn't imminent. I sure don't want bombing some people or area until we have a really good idea/intel who is responsible.

3. Listen to her statement in the debate...
She was very careful to note that we would have to know who did it, and have good evidence on which state IF any had supported it...

Doesn't seem like good policy, or politics to announce that we would not retaliate if our country was attacked again...

Which is why Obama had to come back later and clarify his answer...

4. Rep. Jim Clyburn notes Hillary's great performance just as most folks I know seem to do - and says
it did not change the race that much - again as most folks that I know are saying.

Seems he sees it the way most folks see it.
