May 13 Preview: Giuliani, McCain and Obama
It's a big weekend for the 2008 campaign on the Sunday shows, with a trio of major candidates making appearances.
"Fox News Sunday" has former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani (R). Hot topic: Giuliani's position on abortion rights, as he outlined Friday in a speech in Houston.
NBC's "Meet the Press" has Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). Hot topic: Whether he can convince conservatives he is their best candidate.
ABC's "This Week" has Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.). Hot topic: Whether he can sustain the momentum of the first few months on the campaign.
CBS "Face the Nation" has a potential 2008 candidate, Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.). Hagel will almost certainly be asked again whether he plans to run for president. Other likely topics is his support for measures to end the Iraq war -- a position that might preclude him for running for the GOP nomination if he does decide to run for president.
And CNN's "Late Edition" has a long list of Capitol Hill personalities, with scheduled appearances by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.), as well as former Sen. Max Cleland (D-Ga.). McConnell, who appeared on washingtonpost.com's PostTalk this week, will probably be asked about the latest Democratic proposals to fund the Iraq war for only a few months, as well as any concerns among GOP lawmakers that President Bush's troop "surge" policy won't have shown clear results by September.
