Richardson woos labor vote

By CLYNTON NAMUO

PORTSMOUTH – New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson promised to propose a national collective bargaining law yesterday as he sought the support of firefighter union leaders from across the nation.

Richardson, a Democratic presidential contender, relied heavily on his past union support yesterday as he told about 30 members of the Federation of State and Provincial Professional Fire Fighters that he would continue supporting organized labor if elected.

"I'll always stand with you," he told the crowd at the Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside hotel yesterday.

The federation is a group of state firefighter's union organizations, all of which fall under the International Association of Fire Fighters, which has 280,000 members.

Democratic candidates are lining up to speak to federation members in hopes that it could influence the IAFF's presidential endorsement, a powerful approval that helped push former presidential candidate and Sen. John Kerry forward four years ago.

"I'm hoping you'll do the same for me," Richardson said, referencing Kerry's bump in the polls following the endorsement.

FULL story at link.

It is nice to see candidates seeking the labor endorsement, money, and in kind services. I've listened to Richardson in person. Great speaker and a fine candidate.

1. I like him a lot too Steve...

I like to consider myself a "Richardsee, Obamee, Edwardsie" at this point..

'Course.. In my heart of hearts, I'm still a Clarkie. But dayum.. you'd think if he was going to do it, he would've jumped in by now.

If General Clark doesn't run, I hope that whoever we nominate (whether it's someone I'm hoping for or not) will consider him as their running mate.

Richardson/Clark would be a pretty tough ticket when it comes to experience in both foreign affairs as well as domestic policies.

2. I'm for Richardson, too, Larissa.
I still think he'd be the most popular Democratic candidate in Alaska. He thinks like a westerner.
