What do you do without???
its not that we don't care about High gas prices...its that we can't change our lives. We do without

other things or we don't get a head

My hubby and I make way more than we ever had, but it seems as if we don't

We own one vehicle I have to drive about 30 minutes to drop off my daughter and then to work. Hubby takes the bus because it works for him.

We rarely go out of town to see our parents

We live just a few blocks from the Grocery store.

We do not make needless trips.

We can not change our driving habits any less yet it costs more and more to fill up. SO

We do without other things. Less food, or generic, less extras such as ice cream and sodas No new clothes just because no summer vacations

and we have it easy.

My sister and brother in law live in a small town. She works a pretty decent job in that town, but her hubby has to drive 70 miles a day because there are no jobs he can do in that small town. He used to have riders, but they have lost their jobs due to layoffs. He is spending over 100 dollars a week in gas money. The haven't taken a vacation in over 10 years

They after 25 years of marriage still can not afford to get a decent house because every time it seems they are ready, something happens and now the gas prices have eaten up their house fund. They have also put off getting braces for their 2nd child

it is not that we americans don't care about high gas prices, it is that we can not do anything else.

What are you doing without?

What are you doing without?

4. the biggest thing--is i go without my husband because his job is basically overseas
now because we don't make things anymore and he's a manufacturing engineering manager. He used to be able to get jobs in this country until about 6 years ago, now it's all overseas. He was gone for 200 days last year.

5. Sacrifice Parade ..
For me it isnt sacrifice but necesity.
We heat now with about 90% wood (burnt only about 75 gallons of heating oil last year cpmpared to 1200 gal average in past ).
Electricty consumption is down 40% from 2 years ago by the any method available method but I doubt there is any further to cut ( Im not going to light with candles). Also pulled the plate off my car about 2 years and get around by community car pool methods or walking.
Unfortunatly I still use gas to cut the lawn and at 20$ a can Im still basicaly always broke so whoo-hoo aint I the eco friendly ...

7. Taking care of my own
I fear for my children's future - they are young adults trying to make it in an America that seems bound and determined to keep them from succeeding as their father and I were able to do. So my husband and I go without a lot of things we could afford, maintain a modest lifestyle so we could buy a second home for our son and daughter to live in. They're both working two jobs each and are just barely paying their living expenses, but I can sleep at night knowing they have a roof over their heads if nothing much else.

8. I drive my commuter car almost all the time now.
It gets 30 mpg on average and it's 8 years old.

My year-old convertible gets 22. Plus it takes Premium.

Also, I cannot afford to jump as many times as I used to when I go skydiving. They haven't raised the price of a jump ticket yet (thank God) but I just don't have an extra $100 to jump another 5 times.

Neither one are really that big of a deal, but I do miss being able to jump every week.

9. I've been doing without work altogether (except for part-time temp crap) for two years
I do without pretty much everything, except writing and playing music, the Internet, walking . . .

I never go to movies, unless my friend at the theater gives me tickets. I never eat out. I haven't had a vacation since 1996. I never go to concerts or other events that cost money to attend. Obviously, I never save--I've used up my life's savings to get this far.

10. ... a little bit of everything ...
... I've always been on the edge of too-poor-to-pay-attention so I don't have alot of frills to give up. I've learned to live withouth them already.

If gas prices go up? Cable (I've got basic for $22/mo) is about the only extra I've got to spare.
Maybe break out the rollerblades and trek to work a couple days a week (6 miles each way)??

11. It seems like every year we're paring back.
I already keep the grocery bill under $50 a week, for 4 of us. No new clothes except for the kids. Our electric bill has gone crazy and we're outside all day (Nothing is turned on in the house!) I guess now that it's summer I can dry clothes outside... I'm at a loss for what to cut!

15. Little known electricity facts ...
A lot of electricity gets wasted by refrigerators ... keep the coils clean, they radiate off heat and if they are left dusty they get big time inefficient. Also check that the temperature setting arent kept TOO low. The default temperatures keep the freezer unit about 5 below, setting it for 5 above works fine and saves a lot of juice.
I laughed at the "tune up the fridge" idea until I tried it. Wound up cutting about 40KW a month off my bill.
Next biggie was to put a timer on the hot water heater, noone uses much hot water late at night so why heat it?
:)

12. I am gladly doing without TV.
I don't consider it much of a loss, but I might enjoy the Food Channel occasionally.

I don't think the food network is on it, but there are hundreds of domestic and foreign TV channels you can watch on your computer. It's pretty amazing.
