A Little Touch of Harry (Truman) in Al Gore
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ed-kosner/a-little-touch-of-harry_b_49160.html

Gore is no Truman, but he has the same Middle Border passion and integrity -- and he is capable of plain speaking. Like Truman, he's been belittled and lampooned, and, like Truman, he's shown sound judgment on the some of the biggest questions of the age -- the deep idiocy of the war in Iraq and the peril of climate change.

Best of all, he has already published his campaign manifestos -- An Inconvenient Truth and now The Assault on Reason.

Imagine Gore letting it rip in the Democratic debates, caucuses and primaries against Hillary Clinton's triangulating evasions, Obama's rookie jitters and John Edward's callow populism. And imagine a Gore-Obama ticket hanging George Bush's abysmal record around the neck of Rudy Guiliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Newt Gingrich or some other GOP candidate.

Having lost an election he won, Gore has nothing more to lose. What's more, he knows -- as Harry Truman knew -- that he's the man to save the country -- this time, from another spasm of Clintonism or a disastrous replay of Republican misrule.

1. Sounds like Ed Kosner knows
what he's talkin' about..A Perfect World in which Al Gore would sweep in with Obama as his VP and mop the electorate with whichever of the goons the thugs come up with.

2. How are we going to get him to run?
After all this crap going on in Congress this week, we need Gore more than ever.

3. Campaign manifestos?
Edited on Wed May-23-07 05:27 PM by RestoreGore
What political bs and an insult to people across the political spectrum who support his environmental endeavors based on their merits without political predisposition because it is essential that something be done about it now by all of us. The petition in my signature has been signed by over 600 people and counting from around the world pledging themselves to become climate messengers. It is addressed to Al Gore because he is an environmental ambassador who has been and is instrumental in getting this out into the forefront thanks to those who produced the movie. None of those signing it think his movie was a "campaign manifesto" and none of those signing it have any political predisposition. They actually care about this planet. People who write on these blogs however, leave a different impression and do a disservice to actually bringing about cooperation across political lines on this issue with their intimations that are not true. Al Gore has stated many times that An Inconvenient Truth as is the climate crisis is not a political issue but a moral one. Perhaps in their zeal to "sell him" to forward their own political agenda they might try to remember his own words and respect them for once.

6. You don't want Gore to run, we get it.
But thanks for kicking the thread with your response. BTW thanks to your reply it went to the top of GD:P where I found it. In fact, that's how I find a lot of Gore threads. Your replies help keep the thread alive so it gets more visibility.

8. I guess he (?) wants Gore as an environmentalist only.
You think he would want him in the WH too, after all, that would be the best chance we have to get serious on climate change.

15. She. She tried to draft Gore in 2004 after he endorsed Dean
when he didn't run she turned on him. When AIT came out she it appears she doesn't think Gore is capable of anything else.

It's kind of a "burnt lover" syndrome. She wants to make sure that Gore never becomes president since he didn't run when she wanted him to.

16. We could all learn a thing from Al Gore.
Edited on Wed May-23-07 06:36 PM by Gregorian
He knows what is important. I do not mean that in a trivial sense. There is a demon on the horizon, and only Al Gore has the ability to wake the masses to it's presence. And that is critical for someone who might be a president. He's moderate in the sense that he's not out to call names or get even. But he has fire and brimstone at times. He's far from bland.

And something else- When I say trivial, and demon, what I mean is twofold. Not only is our environment ready to collapse on us, but the Middle East hates us for our consumption. Not our freedom. We have a man who can kill two birds with one stone.

There is one thing that keeps haunting me. Al Gore deserves to be president.
