I didn't think I could despise Lieberman anymore than I already did but...
I recieved this e mail from Move On and I am so mad I cannot put it into words right now!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear MoveOn member,
It's absurd—Joe Lieberman is throwing a fundraiser this week to protect Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine, one of the key pro-war votes and one of the most vulnerable Republican senators.1 It'll be a typical insider party, filled with lobbyists and CEO types. A fundraiser like this can raise $200,000 in one night.

Rep. Tom Allen, the anti-war hero who's running to replace Collins, isn't getting any help from Lieberman. So he needs some help from us. And if 8,000 of us pitch in $25, we can counter Lieberman and send a true anti-war progressive to the Senate from Maine .

Can you chip in $25 to beat Joe Lieberman's Republican fundraiser?

Rep. Tom Allen voted against the Iraq war in 2002 and against funding the war without a timeline to bring our troops home.2 He's an anti-war hero taking the fight to a Senate supporter of the war.

1. The party really needs to work to unseat Collins.
Collins is not Snowe. Collins can be unseated, especially by someone as well liked and respected as Tom Alllen, but not without a lot of help.

2. Thank you for posting this
Tom Allen CAN defeat Susie and Move On's assistance will certainly help.

We're going to be working really hard here to elect Tom to the Senate. This race has such national implications and is already drawing the attention of the DSCC. They have targeted this race and will be helping us to force Susan into a long retirement.

5. Thank goodness Conn. Dems abandoned their own party to vote for this a-hole
Because, goodness knows, we need to keep Collins in the Senate. :sarcasm:

14. Huh?
I thought it was the *Republican* vote that put him in office. The *Democrats* elected Lamont in the primary.

would you do it?

8. He's an independent
I don't like the guy either, but he is an independent now. It shouldn't be shocking that he's backing a moderate Republican against an anti-war Democrat, based on his stance.

11. I personally think that Lieberman's trying to head off the Dems on this...
Edited on Wed Jun-20-07 10:42 AM by calipendence
I wonder how much he's REALLY tied to Susan Collins, and how much he's trying to fend off any possibility that the Dems might try to get her to switch parties before 2008. She has to know that she's a very "threatened" incumbent like moderates were last election (Chaffee in the Senate, Leach in the House, etc.). Lieberman is also chairing the same and very important Homeland Security committee that she is also on. We could offer her chairmanship of that committee if she were to switch at Lieberman's expense.

This is nothing against Tom Allen, who if Collins isn't receptive to switching parties, I would fully get behind as a strategic means to get back the congress.

But if we can unseat Lieberman NOW from his pivotal role in the current congressional majority, I think we should do that. I think Lieberman knows that, and THIS is why he's supporting Collins now!

Keep in mind she voted no confidence in Abu Gonzales and Lieberman didn't!

12. She will NEVER change parties and, frankly, we don't want her
Lieberman and Susan are well connected. She supported his re-election and he's returning the favor.

I do not want Susan Collins in the Democratic party. She is not in any way, shape, or form a Democrat. Neither is she the moderate she likes to portray.

13. He could be countering John Kerry's plan to go after her and others
that support the war. At least thats what I recall. Thought Kerry had said a couple months ago he planned to target certain Repug senate seats and hers was one.
